After hanging out on the board here for 3 years I am about to give Vendio a try for listing my auctions.

The question I have is that if I have an International bidder go through checkout and the stated shipping is for the U.S. only, will the system be smart enough to not allow an International buyer to pay the U.S shipping amount?

Thanks...

Marc

If I remember correctly - when you set up shipping amounts on your auction you can set US, Canadian and International shipping rate. (I know that is the way it is with AuctionWorks - I seem to remember it being the same with Vendio when I used their service.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Hi Marc,
The system is not "smart" enough to calculate International shipping. Here is how I handle this:
In your checkout post management option change the text to include something like this: "Please complete the following steps to finalize this transaction. It will only take a couple minutes. The Shipping rates quoted are for US Buyers. If you are an International buyer, please email me at [email protected] [insert your email address] and your rates will be sent to you."

Once I calculate for international buyers, then I edit their WBN and use the "Custom Field". Enter the amount. In the description, I enter Ex. "Economy Surface to Canada" or "Air Letter to Canada". If the auction is over & they haven't replied yet, then I'll calculate the rates & edit the WBN then. I'll also send them a Pay Pal invoice.

Hope this helps.

Marc: I've sold quite a few items to international buyers, and I've never had one use PayPal before he got my EOA message. I have a message on the auction page similar to the one posted here, in which I say "Thinking of using PayPal? Please wait for my end-of-auction message with all costs, including shipping."

I also try to get to international winners immediately when auction ends, with my standard message, so there's no chance of a mixup.

The gung-ho Paypal users are almost always here in the U.S.

I really think you'll like listing through Vendio. Much simpler to my way of thinking, and unlimited photos make it all worthwhile.

Thanks for all your input. I just launched my first auctions and I will have to wait 10 days to see how it goes.
