I'm trying to date some N gauge model cars I came across. I've looked all day and haven't found anything on these yet. On Ebay, the ones they are selling are either newer looking boxes or have no box at all. These all have $1.18 price tag on them so I believe they are older. The question is - how much older?

thanks

Bachmann trains are being sold today. I don't think your pieces are very old.

With reference to Lionel trains (which these are not) the dividing line is World War II. Pieces made subsequent to that are not in demand.

I don't think you can buy these within the last 10 years for $1.18. The AHM track is 69 cents, and I don't think they're still in business under that name.

Ah, here we go..."AHM disappeared about 15 to 20 years ago. It is now called International Hobby Corp(IHC)."

This might help.

Check your boxes and see if there is a zip code. Other than that find out if there is a model railroad group in your town. Good Luck.

The point that I was trying to make is that the dividing line between old/not old here, as in most things, goes back quite a bit farther than 10 years.

I sold a great many American Flyer cars over the years (S gauge).

I am not a model train expert.

when you list them, mention about the original price tag and how much it says. that will help the collectors age the pieces.

check the outside of the boxes closely...many times the boxes are dated

my uncle is a train collector and he said with a price tag of $1.18, they are probably from the 60's to 70's

Thank you very much. I think 60's is about what I finally googled out being the right time frame.
