I get so sick of hearing people tell me E-Bay has hurt the Flea Markets. It is getting hard to buy anything at the Flea Market to re-Sell on E-Bay,they want 10 times what the stuff would even bring on E-Bay if you did try to sell it on E-Bay. And these nitwits are the same bunch crying they can't sell anything...lower your prices. It is really unreal what a lot of people are trying to get out of stuff in Kentucky. I do buy a lot of stuff at the Flea Market to re-sale on E-Bay,some weeks I spend over $100.00 with certain dealers and some dealers buy off of me to sell on E-Bay. But where these people think everybody is getting rich off of Selling on E-Bay I don't know.

upscale brick and mortar dealers have been shopping ebay and selling in their stores.

Never mention at a flea market or yard sale that you sell on eBay. The vendor will get a hard look in his eyes and suddenly there's no room for negotiation.

The result is the vendor's item will sit unsold for a long time.

I always tell them I sell on:
Yahoo and Bidville!
They feel sorry for me and give me a 50% discount!

Although we sell only new product, we have noticed with the popularity of e-Bay, that merchandize at our local Flea Markets has gone through the roof, and like others have said, items costs more to buy at the Flea Markets than one can buy them on eBay.

Our local Flea Market dealers have most of their items priced way above what we would sell the same item for at our Brick and Mortar Antique shop!!

I as a rule don't make a comment unless provoked. If I get one of those Flea Marketeers telling me an item go for XXX, I fire right back that it goes for WWW and they simply haven't kept up with the times and they better toss out the book and check the real market value of items on Ebay. Then I give them the big, Good Luck on selling that item. You will need it.
That is why I generally don't do flea markets.

Here's a good one!!

I live just north of Cincinnati and headed for a large garage sale in Delhi last weekend. The only reason I went was because the seller advertised that they had a large amount of "junk" jewelry. What is junk to most people who have garage sales can be real treasures for those who collect vintage jewelry. Myself, and a few others arrived at exactly 9:00 am, which was when the sale started. I'm not one of those people who show up an hour early and expect to be waited on. The other individuals and I were very patient waiting for the owners to say they were open. I headed for the jewelry while the other people headed for different sections.

When I saw the table I immediately began to laugh. Around me I heard the others laughing or swearing, whichever seemed appropriate.

On the tables the items were layed out with stickers that said "Ebay price as of 5-14-2004. That's the price they wanted for every item. Before I could say anything one of the gentlemen asked if their was going to be any negotiating. The response was a firm "NO!"

The gentleman next to me was looking at shoes and responded with, "Lady, you couldn't get these prices on ebay if you threw in Cinderella's glass slipper."

After laughing ourselves sick we all moved on to bigger and better things. The best part of the entire episode was that the people having the sale were shocked that we were not going to pay their prices.

Go figure!!!

I have seen the same thing. If they want ebay prices, then they should be selling it for themselves on ebay.
What on earth are they thinking.
