Saw this auction featured on the front page and was curious ..... now I'm just flat out baffled. Why in the world would someone pay to have this auction a front page feature?

My guess is that they are testing the effectiveness of the featured option by putting a mediocre item up. They may have plans for something bigger down the line and they are paying more attention to the counters than they are the bids.

Sparkx - I could buy that excetpt wouldn't you at least launch an item that had a showballs chance in hell of recouping some of your costs? This is a reproduction t-shirt that retails for an incredibly exaggerated $30 and they decided to pay nearly 3 times that for a featured listing? If that is their rationale, they still exhibited a bad coice of items as test subject.

Fenix...You and I would both try to make a few bucks off this item, but I think they are making this item a sacrificial lamb and intentionally chose a low cost item to list. They are only interested in how many bidders will be drawn to the auction through a featured listing. An attractive item would have an adverse effect in this situation. It's a simple market study. Look for them to come up with something on a big scale in the next 2 weeks if they are satisfied with the results. Right now they have 350 hits in 6 1/2 days on this item. I think that's what they are interested in. Personally, I wouldn't pay the extra .20 cents for a ten day listing if this were my auction.

I think they either accidental checked the homepage featured option, or did not realize the cost.

These shirts have been selling for about $4 on average for them.

I agree- an additional $40 charge for market research is silly. Unless you are researching the respose you are going to get to a blue version of the shirt it's wasted money. I had 250 hits on a 3 day auction last week... cost me an additional basic gallery fee.

What is even more stupid is this person has listed the same items a few more times at the cheap price. Anyone that does any research will know this and the seller is going to be out some serious cash.

I just had one other thought. About 3 1/2 years ago, ebay had a glitch in the system if you listed in a certain way, it would charge you zero dollars for home page feature. It did charge you, but it was for zero dollars. Do you suppose this person found a glitch like that?
Just a thought.
