I found some never used china in a box full of things wrapped in newspapers from 1955. I've seen the mark before but don't know what it is. The pattern is with med. red roses. I've also seen this mark on china at one of the local thrift stores but wouldn't buy it since I didn't know it. Thanks for any help.

4 chinese characters going from left to right-china is the first two,the other two are too blurred to read.
chinese trademarks dont really mean much, most are 20th century production/reproduction.

I am sorry, but I can't read all of this to give you a definitic=ve answer. Why is it that people put on such lousy pictures? If you take a little time with your photography, you can do better. I know that I am being critical, but if you want us to help, then give us better pics to work with. I work with china all of the time & would never put on a FUZZY PICTURE.

Sorry Sanmar. I had lasik in Dec and am having trouble with my eyes. I have to retake a lot of my photos now lately. I didn't realize it was fuzzy. Plus I thought just the pagoda emblem might be their trademark. OK I took it again holding a jewelers loop in front of the lense hoping to get it large enough....it's pretty tiny. If you can't read this I guess I out of luck.
Thanks Sanmar!

They may not be from the 1950s,thats the time when everyone was busy playing good commie in china and there was this bamboo curtain, there was hardly any direct communication between china and USA.
If there were any consumer goods made for exports,it was to USSR as china owed the russian a lot of money for helping them win the war.
It was only into the 70s, 80s you see chinese made goods-cloths,xmas decorations, china, stone carvings, rattan furniture in the states.

The pagoda mark is rather charming; I'd love to see the other side of the dish, if you have the time. For some reason, that pagoda reminds me of something. . . can't dredge it up yet, though.

Thanks Roadsmith. Here are two photos of the front. The set of dishes I've seen at one of the thrift stores that has the same mark are have a delicate floral pattern and is quite nice. I only bought these because they were so cheap I knew I wouldn't lose much if they are something that won't sell.
Fluff----
What has happened with the lasik isn't fixable. I had to have the epi-lasik because me skin was borderline too thin for the flap and zap. Instead of cutting the flap they soften the top layer of skin with diluted alcohol and rake the skin off then do the laser and move the skin back. They place a contact lens bandage over it for 7 days so the skin will stay where it is supposed to.
The problem is this though. They, the Dr.s, don't want you taking any meds that dry your eyes out the day before, of , or after the procedure. I am on meds that dry my eyes out and that is why I wanted the surgery because I had so many problems with contacts. I stopped taking my meds 10 day before the surgery just to be safe. What they didn't bother to tell me is meds will still affect your sight after the procedure. They tell you that there will be a problem with dryness for a short time but not that it may affect your vision. I didn't start taking the meds again until 2 1/2 months after the surgery and that is when my sight went bad. I knew going in that my eyes were so bad I would probably still have to wear glasses but I didn't know I would have the problems I'm having. Before I went back on the meds my sight was 20/25 and 20/35 now is it is 20/50 20/60 and glasses still don't correct it.
There is a chance it still may change for up to a year with the epi but I'm not holding my breath. Just trying to cope with sight problems and get used to wearing glasses again and the need for eye drops constantly. If my eyes ever get over being tender I may try to go back to contacts and see if that helps.

Paws: Pretty dishes. Looks as though the roses are decals, not hand painted, but the gold trim helps a bit. Put "roses" in the title. I had several pieces of 50s china I was sure wouldn't sell for much of anything but I put them up for sale, and they were won by a woman who needed the roses for a mosaic pottery project she was working on. You never know.
There are collectors out there of rose items. Put the singular in your description so either rose or roses will show up in a T&D search. Worth a try, anyway, and if the gold trim is in good condition, be sure to emphasize that.
Sorry to hear about your eye problems. The ads on tv make it sound soooo easy, don't they!

Thanks everyone. Maybe even try to list in mosaic for that purpose Roadsmith! I have 4 dinner plates and 4 soup bowls. And yes I do think they are decals not painted for sure.
Oh, my eyes will be ok as long as I don't go completey blind I will be thankful. No matter whats wrong there is always something to be thankful for and I am thankful it isn't so bad I can't see.

Oh, paws. I'm sure all of us who are going through "normal" age-related eyesight changes can relate. And dry eyes are no fun, I know.

Yes, that is only compounding the problem. Dry eyes from the procedure, meds and then age also. Age sure changes things doesn't it? It started at 40 and now 51 is seeing more and they are faster it seems. Oh well we can't stay young forever.
