I currently have the same Linksys system for the last 2 years. My kids computer has never worked well after replacing it twice (could never get a good signal and it's 10 feet from the router). I have been on the phone with techincal support an average of once or twice a month. Well, this morning I have been on the phone for 4 hours on and off because our laptop won't work either - upgrading firmware, drivers etc. on both computers (neither one would work this morning for some reason. He (the technical support guy) finally said buy a new card. Well, I would rather buy a new system
Any suggestions on what works well with little maintenance?

When I bought my spawn of Satan PC laptop, I bought a Linksys card to go with it.
We could NOT get it to work. And "we" in this case is a network engineer and a Unix system administrator. The thing was a piece of crap.
Instead, we installed a Lucent Orinoco Gold card (old but good technology) we had lying around and it worked immediately. I use the same model wireless card in my PowerBook G3 Series laptop. In my G4 Titanium PowerBook I use an AirPort card. These are all 802.11b. All work flawlessly.
My advice: Dump the Linksys gear. Not worth the hassle.
