Got this today (and I know I owe more than the amount shown here, but with Ebay's recent billing problems, it worries me):

Please be advised that due to the size of your invoice file for account XXXX, it is too large to be sent to your email service. Your total amount due is $129.80.

You can review your current Invoice details and Account Status at any time accessing the on-line tools by following these steps:
- Go to the eBay Home page
- Select My eBay and logon with your eBay User ID and Password
- Select the Accounts Tab
- Select Account Activity to View Account Status or View Invoices (you may need to logon again)

Thank you for using eBay, we appreciate your using our services.

Regards,
eBay Billing

Did you check its source? Right click on it in the area where your email is listed. Then choose "View Message Source"

Thank you for using eBay, we appreciate your using our services.

It's a spoof, written by a non-English speaker.

Most eBay communications use the appropriate punctuation and avoid using awkward constructions like "we appreciate your using our services". That one's a dead giveaway.

Hi all,

Just a thought... Does your ISP put a limit on the size of emails you can receive?

I got one of those this morning too and as far as I know, my ISP doesn't have any limits on the size email I can receive.

Here is the header on mine:

Whatnot - That's why I assumed it was legit until I saw this thread here ... no clickable link.

Whatnot: in addition to telling you that, they do act upon your report. Last week I reported a spoof to them and, on checking further, found that the perpetrator had been shut down.

I don't think it is a spoof, it just has a semi literate author. There is nothing to be accomplished by this email other than you going to your account independently to view the billing report.

Okay, this gets weirder.

I checked my account through Ebay's site map; I owe about $357. The "spoof?" email I got said I owe $129.

The account number the spoof gave me is only 3 digits off (the last three digits) from my REAL Ebay account no.

To my knowledge there's no limit to the size of e-mails I can receive; some of them take a lonnng time to load and I still get it all.

I have indeed reported this to [email protected]

It didn't happen to have an attachment did it? If so, it may have been spyware.

If mine had an attachment, I didn't see it, but my ISP is extremely good at stripping those off if they have anything in them.

I forwarded it to eBay, but got no answer yet other than the "canned response"...."we're checking it".

BTW Roadsmith - When I checked the account numbers, the three last digits were different on the email.

I received the exact email a few weeks ago. I immediately send it to spoof and NEVEr received a reply. I think i even sent it twice. Still, stupid POOH Bay, never replied. I assumed it was real. I'll post the headers later. I have to run to work now

The 2nd sentence does not appear to be written by an individual who speaks English as a native language. It is extremely awkward in construction. I believe e-bay does better than that

No reply from Ebay yet.

Other thing that doesn't ring true is that I never HAVE gotten a big read-out of my entire Ebay account in my e-mail. They just bill my credit card each month (except for this spring!) and send an e-mail saying they've billed it.

I also received the same email. I went to ebay live help and asked if it was legit. The answer was yes. When I asked about the difference in the amount, I was told that the billing was behind. A few days later I received another email from them confirming the amount owed.

I did try that--nothing comes up & it always times out. Tried in bothe IE and Netscape: same results.

Also tried the 10.6.68.53 in the source. Exact same results.

Makes me suspicious about it being authentic.
