we just have a local isp at work... she is in charge of our residential program and wants the clients to know when she will be back in the office.. she often has to travel out of town for conferences, etc.

I have had customers before who have used autoresponders to answer my eoa notices. The only drawback I can see is that her local isp needs to have a very effective spam filter, because these programs will answer everything, even spam. If she doesn't mind wading through a couple thousand Viagra and Vicodan offers when she gets back, go for it. I would rather trust a co-worker with my password to answer my mail while I'm gone.
