We're up the mountain from the desert cities, in Idyllwild. Wondering what are the best places to eat in the PS/Palm Desert area--especially Mexican, Thai, Indian.

(To make this thread Ebay related: It's important for us sellers to be well nourished, right?)

Thanks for the bump, Libra. We just returned from our 110-mile round trip to a doctor, with still no clues about where to eat in the desert areas (Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, etc. etc. etc.).

I have no idea but it is a safe bet that the concierge in your hotel will know. If you are not staying at a hotel or your does not have one, fake it : ) Call one of the larger hotels, ask for the concierge desk and ask for recommendations. If they ask just tell them you are meeting on business before checking in and need a recommendation.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Fenix: LOL, we never stay in Palm Springs! We just drive down the mountain and do our business then get up to 6,000 feet and home just as fast as we possibly can. So, no hotel there, ever.

I'm just thinking there's someone here who lives in the area. Maybe not, though!

JACK! I can tell you know our area! How nice. Tahquitz Peak is our view from our living room windows, and Lily Rock (formerly Tahquitz Rock) is the centerpiece of our view. Don't know about the nude look at the falls, though.

Yes, the tram is truly awesome. If you go up it and hike down the mountains about 10 miles, you come to where our cabin is, 8 miles from the town. Wonderful area, ain't it?

"Twenty-nine Stumps"--now that's funny! For the gringos out there, he means Twenty-nine Palms--but I suppose they've been stumps at one time or another.

We call Taco Bell "Taco Hell." But thanks for the suggestion.

A Statewide business association I used to belong to would occasionally have conventions in Palm Springs. I can't remember any of the restaurant names though. It's been a few years. The one thing I do remember about some of the restaurants though, you want to bring plenty of cash, or a credit card that's not close to being maxed. Many of the finer places tend to be quite pricey.

The only place I know to eat, never been there though, Bakers Square. My Son-in-laws brother was the manager there about 5 years ago. Love that French Silk Pie. I have no idea where it is and since I don't ever plan to go to California I will never know. I love the mid west...I can't leave the 4 seasons.

BTW did you stop at any thrift shops in the area? They must have good merchandise with all the wealth in Palm Springs.

Libra: 2 years ago when we first moved here I had the same idea--but when we looked down there, it was disappointing in many ways. I can't remember now if the merchandise wasn't so hot or the prices were too high, but I haven't gone back. Then I tried some consignment stores, and they wanted big dollars for mostly furniture--and the furniture was all in the outdated blue-mauve-pink print sofas, etc. Glass coffee tables, faux gold trim, and so on. It's probably time to check it all out again, but the consignment places had very few "smalls" and mostly carried rather gaudy furniture I wouldn't have in my home.
