HELLLLLLLLLLP.

i bought a box lot last night for the scarf in the box. i also gained doilies and 9 spools of lace, ranging from 3in width to 1in width. each spool is marked "hancock." i surmise it came from the retailer, or their supplier. each of the spools are also marked with the retail.

i am trying to estimate each spool's value.
they are marked with a price. the label shows a price[handwritten] and the label shows "x" nbr of yards. as example, $6.49 and 90 yards. this particular roll has 32 feet remaining.

how would you estimate its total..

I used to sell a lot of sewing things and have sold the large spools before but it's hard to say now. Check out the selling prices in sewing notions and business and industrial supplies under textile, apparel manufacturing / other and see what they are selling for. I just did a search under the textile, apparel and only one item came up. Summer isn't a good time to search for anything on prices.

If the lace is embellished or embroidered it is worth more. If it is the run of the mill lace it may not be worth as much. Post a photo of the laces and see what others might know. Sorry I wasn't much help

I'm not quite sure what is meant by 6.49 and 90 yards, but if it means that the full spool would be 6.49 then the 10.6 yds of lace remaining would cost about 2.16

"hancock" is Hancock Fabrics. This retailer is in the east as in Ohio Indiana Kentucky and some parts of the northeast.

That's what Hancock stands for. Hope this helps.

hi mcjane:

i sorry;
i was confusingly confounding on my question.

let me rephrase it..the spool is marked: $6.49 and 90 yards-by the retailer. does one take for granted that means $6.49 per YARD...if so, is that expensive lace??? the spool would have had an original retail of $584.[and you right on the money re: remaining amt.] this lace is like gauze, fine, with lots of wheel repeating designs..3in wide.

------------
then i have another spool, as follows: it is marked $2.29 and 225 FEET. again, marked by the retailer. should one expect that this lace was retailed $2.29 per FOOT??

this lace is heavier feeling, appears more like crochet i guess, and is only 1.5 in wide.
-----------

paws, tanx, i couldnt find any either; so i gigured i didnt know where to look.

-------------
capolady: thanks, the spools all marked hancock supply company...their "supplier" is most probably the "parent" company.

M O T
I really did misunderstand your question, and then again I thought 6.49 a yard was a bit much. The way it's marked is totally confusing, confused me too. LOL

I hope it is 6.49 a yard because then you really do have something there.

Maybe a call to an upscale yard goods store will help as to how them mark such items.

Sold by the Yard.

Search for lace on Hancock's Site.

Hi Myoldtoy -- Lace is generally sold by the yard. If it's 3 inches wide, this type of lace is generally used for making wedding dresses and fancier items. I wish I could see some of it to tell you a bit more. Some laces are quite expensive -- considerably more than $6.49 depending on the materials used to make it, style, etc. Also, some laces are handmade. That's why if I could see it, I could tell you if it's handmade.

I have been sewing for over 45 years.

Yes, Bizzy is right. It is very likely the lace was $6.49 per yard. The 90 yds refers only to how much the original reel of lace held when full. It was sold by the yard off the reel to customers at Hancock's store.

BUT sometimes a customer (like me) will request that the many yards of lace (not a full reel) they are buying be wound back onto an old empty reel to keep it clean and neat. So the reel it is on may not be the original. Chances are if it is very full, it is probably the original. If you list it as being "X" number of yards, you MUST unroll it and measure it. Many reels purchased this way are not full.

And yes, some chain fabric stores do put their own private lable on some items, especially if they have an exclusive to that pattern of lace/or a particular printed fabric.

Hancock is a national chain of retail fabric stores. They cater to the home sewer and individual seamstresses.

There are at least FIVE areas to search on Ebay for reels of lace:

Crafts/Fabric Embellishments

Everything like you have should be listed in that category and put below "TRIMS" but Ebay's overlapping categories confuse some sellers. I also found lace on reels in the following:

Crafts/Sewing/Notions, Supplies, Tools
Crafts/Fabric/Lace
Crafts/Wholesale Lot/Fabric Embellishment
Collectibles/Linens, Fabric and Textiles

I suggest searching for "lace yards" in title and description in those categories. Narrow the search further by eliminating undesireable results.

And yes, seeing a good picture may tell the experienced here what quality you have. The retail price is a clue if it's the original reel.

Good luck,
Patty
