An item I just sold on ebay is damaged; i cannot send it out.

I have notified the purchaser and he understands. The sale is null and void.

What do I do about the ebay commission? I tried to file for a FINAL VALUE FEE credit, but it is saying I must wait 7 days. Is this accurate?

Yep. You have to wait the full 7 days. Be sure to choose the "mutual consent" option and not one of the others. Email the bidder ahead of time and tell him what you are going to do. He will receive an email from Ebay requesting him to verify your claim of a non sale. Be sure to assure him that this will not put a black mark on his Ebay record.

i know how you feel. i sold a covered candy dish and when my husband was putting it in the box, he hit the edge of the coffee table with the lid. it shattered into a hundred pieces, all in a bubble wrap bag (thank goodness). my buyer was understanding too. she actually gave me glowing feedback for being honest.
