I have several auctions going that have over200 hits and no bids. This is unprecedented for me. I wonder if I ought to reset the auction counter, before I scare off buyers as opposed to the browsers. Maybe just go to a hidden counter?

Hiyts & counters are not the same. Why would you want to reset the hits? No one sees them but you if you are using Vendio,

Is your concern that you have a visible counter and you're worried the high number on it might turn off potential bidders?
Personally I don't think you need to be worried about it but if you are, yes, you could go to an invisible counter. If you can't convert to hidden now you could reset. Do make a note of the count when you do that so you know how many people have looked at your auction.

I would quit over reacting. Bidders aren't interested in your counter. They are interested in your product. If it is worth buying, they will.
