It looks to me like a setter, I realize it is not a detailed model, but I need to have some kind of name for it.

Hi Amber, how are you? Looks like a red setter to me, too. Irish retriever might be another name for him. He's very nice, is he marked? The glaze looks familiar.

FIDO?

Seriously, looks like a hound dog to me.

Amber, I can't tell by looking at the picture but...

If it has a long tail, I would say it's an Irish Setter.

If it has a short tail, it would be an English Cocker Spaniel.

edited to add: If the tail isn't clearly defined...I would go with English Cocker Spaniel. That's what the head resembles most to me.

Thanks folks. I did wonder about an English Cocker spaniel, but I thought the neck was too long, they are usually more squat with a shorter body I thought.
Hi earthmum, it is Blue Mountain Pottery, made about 20 miles from where I live.
TnErnie, what you see of the tail is all there is, but that doesn't mean much, it is not really detailed.

Hard to see in the photo for me but Irish setters have real long legs and this dog seems to have much shorter ones. Sort of looks like am American cocker spaniel or a Springer. Perhaps the figure was not meant to be exacting in it's depiction and few dogs meet the breed standard in conformation anyway.

It's a smaller spaniel, look at the ratios, if it were an Irish or something larger, it wouldn't have such a big head to body proportion.
Maybe it's a nice old style hunting cocker, before the faddish akc'ers got ahold of it and debrained it by worring about tails, coats and colors.

It probably is somewhat generic, but it is much better to have a name in the listing. I think I will call it a Cocker Spaniel in the title, and then say it could be a setter in the description. I don't know what else to do. I don't think "dog" would do it! Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi Amber,

Here are my thoughts on this.

If you have room, I'd suggest you include the word "dog" in your title. Cocker spaniel dog, setter dog, whatever...

A while back I had a group of German shorthaired pointer memorabilia-type things. Listed them twice with no interest. Then, thanks to Roadsmith, I included "dog" in the title and gave it one more shot. Ended up with multiple bidders.

Thanks Roadsmith!

Thanks Lucy, I will do that. I am trying to use keywords in my titles, but I am still learning how to do it.

Glad to help, Amber.

I've gotten much better at writing my titles, too. Of course sometimes there's nothing but keywords in there and it's hard to make it at least *sound* like a coherent sentence but it DOES work.

Way more hits and bids. I find my keywords by searching for similar auctions on eBay and checking out the ones that sold the highest.

I'd include the word hound as hound is inclusive of most of the breeds mentioned in the string.

dog owners and breeders look for specific breed, they dont search by 'DOG'.
They know their breed because they see it everyday, you can ask them to email you what they think it is.

stopwhining-That's a good idea. That is why I was hoping to find the specific breed, but I am not even sure it's meant to be a specific one.
