I came into an original drawing underglass. I think it's really neat. The signature is DLM. It looks like a bust of a woman in middle eastern headdress and clothing. Really unique. Anyone know where to start looking for info on the artist?

Try putting DML in the internet search and see what it says. I don't know if you will get the info you want though.

Thanks Jake for the excellent resource but in this case, didn't help much. All I have is the signature to go on. Maybe it's a non famous artist. I'll take a foto of the picture and try to post it later on today.

I finally was able to take the fotos. Sorry they are not perfect. I had to lean it up against the front door. It is kind of BIG. Is it me, or is this a very dramatic picture. I think it's the eyes. I don't know if you can see it by my stupid fotos though.

Here is a close up of the signature

Paloma...That's Lucy modeling the sari she's going to wear to her son's Hindu wedding.

Seriously, check the very top band of the crown?. Do the characters look like Arabic or Cryllic? My guess it that the subject may be Russian, but the photo doesn't provide enough detail.

Dyan L Merkel works in charcoals & also pastels, does portraits & animals.

Worth a try to contact her to see if she might be the artist.
Her email address is:
[email protected]

I don't know how she signs her work, could be DLM
You could ask.

Oh Sparkz! How interesting! I thought it was greek or afgani or somewhere over there! I will try to take a close up of the band tomorrow. I can tell you that the top row looks like roman numeral III and V and the bottom row is all roman numeral 10 X with a line on the top and bottom. Does that help?

It would be a miracle if it's her, but you have to start somewhere.

Good luck.

Doesn't look like it's her (Not her style or signature on her other paintings and drawings) but I'll contact her anyway. It's worth a shot. Thanks so much

Interesting bit of info. I asked ny neighbor, who is from Russia, To take a look at the picture. She said it isn't of a Russian woman. The headdress is wrong and so are the facial features. She DID say that there are only two groups or areas of Russia where they would use a similar the headdress but still the facial features are all wrong. She doesn't think she's Greek or from the middle east. She thinks that it could be from Seria or from a nearby country.

Well, back to the drawing board. Thanks again everyone for your help on this

The patterned design on the top band looks like it may be Ukranian or Lithuanian but that's just a guess.
