I sold a dress to a buyer several weeks ago. They now say the dress is too large and wants to exchange it for a smaller size. The problem is that I'd have to special order a smaller size. The auction clearly stated the size. This buyer got this dress for a good price ($14) and to exchange it would not be cost effective. Any advise on how I should respond?

i would be honest with her and said i do not have a smaller size in stock .
These bidders must understand they are not buying from Macy or Nordstrom.
dont even bother to tell them how you run your business.

For Once, I agree with stopwhining. If they can't try on a dress, then they are risk. If you gave the correct size, too bad.

You might diplomatically suggest she register as an Ebay seller, sit in front of the computer 10 hours a day, eat Big Macks and fries, drink beer and snack on chocolate. She'll grow into that dress in no time.

Several weeks ago! Unreasonable to expect an exchange now.
Besides I wonder if she expects to pay postage both ways because if you do exchange it, she should.

i agree with most of the posters. you offered a specific size. i am assuming you also put the measurements in the description. she still bid.

just tell her that you do not have her size and go on from there. she should have decided whether it would fit before she bid.

I agree with everyone else. You aren't running an online Wal-Mart. You could suggest she list it on eBay herself. *shrugging*

sparkz, LOL!

dst,
I agree with the other posters, tell her that you do not have it in a smaller size. Don't say you don't have it "in stock" or she will ask you to order and exchange for free.

If you did not post the measurements in the auction, it is her fault for not asking for them. If the dress was labled as a 14, it's a 14 for THAT manufacturer.

All we ladies know that fit can vary from one clothing line to another. The larger the size number, it seems the greater the disparity between manufacturers.

You definitely should not be expected to special order the other dress, nor cover her postage for returns. The best you could do to service her (if you want to go that far) would be to have her ship it back, and refund the purchase NOT including postage. But you are not obligated to do it.

Even online catalogs I buy from do not refund the postage either way on returns. If it is their mistake, they issue a pickup order or send a prepaid shipping lable.
