Can anyone help identify the maker of this figurine? It is hand painting and seems well made. We could list it with a general description but a maker's name would be nice to have. My sister is sure she has seen a very similar figure that was identified by maker but we can not find it in any of her collectors' guides. The bottom only has an embossed number which looks like a model number and the residual trace of a paper label.

I enjoy searching but can not think of any keywords that would not apply to almost any hand painted figurine of a girl.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Even if it's not 'made in Occupied Japan' you might check those type of listings to see which makers it might or might not be. And toasted seems to be more current on the subject.

Edited for punctuation.

Toasted, You may well be correct but my sister was thinking it was an American designer like Florence (but not Florence). She keeps thinking it is on the tip of her tongue.

If it is Lefton or Napco I don't think that will be very helpful in the description.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I checked my lefton book and she is not in there but one similiar to her is there. The shape of the skirt, the ruffel edge, the gold above the edge and the position of the hands are the same as yours. Is there a number on the bottom of yours? The number of this one is #5604 and described as 6 inch Lady. How tall is the one you have?

The one in the book is a little more ornate than yours but the overall resemblence of the figurine seems the same. I hope this helps.

your sister may be thinking of Josef, but if it were, it would definitely be marked.

she is very pretty, just the type of thing i can never resist at a sale.

good luck, hope you do well with her.

Libra,

She is 6 1/2 inches tall and the incised mark on the bottom is "418". Can you tell me in which book you saw a similar Lefton figure? If it is Lefton don't you think it would be marked? As would a Florence or Josef. I am afraid it will just get lost on eBay without a name to draw attention. Maybe we should put it in my sister's mall booth or in our online store?

Any other thoughts will be appreciated.

Many of the Lefton and Enesco figurines had the number of the shape debossed (incised) or printed in ink in the base, and carried a stick on label with the maker's name. Without the label, you only have the shape number to go by.

many Napco items only have a number on the bottom.

I found it in Collector's Encyclopedia of Lefton China by Loretta Delozier on page 73, but on page 79 there is another figurine #462 she is 6 1/4 inches high. There are a bunch of figurines in this book but none with those numbers. Lefton did if they had a paper tag did only number the bottom. In my book these are valued at around $50.00 but I think that is a little steep in this market.
