I was at a local thrift shop this weekend and found some interesting tiki mugs. I bought three like the one pictured for $1.00 each. Did I get a good deal? Are they worth listing on eBay? How would you describe them? I haven't been able to find any information about the "Kahlua Hut". Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know how to make you picture's work, but in general tiki mugs sell. Is there a manufacturer on the bottom? We'll see if someone can get the pictures to work.

My best guess is that Kahlua Hut is just a Tiki bar somewhere so you may not find many information on it. I think it should go in the $4.00-$7.00 range. I would title it something like this:

Rare Hawaiian God Green Tiki Mug Kahlua Hut Mint (if applicable)

I would put either the height or how many ounces it holds in the description.

Hope that helps - and I know rare is overused, but since there isn't any other Kahlua Hut mugs on ebay it seems rare to me

I sell Tiki stuff on eBay and in my shop. We do better in our shop than if we sell on eBay. Anyhow, I would estimate these to go for $3-6 each on eBay maybe more. These are pretty cool looking, so I would also use a Gallery pic of a good close up of the design. Tiki stuff is quite oversaturated this time of year, so I would hold off until the holiday season.

ihula & rustygumbo,

Thanks for your help and suggestions! Any idea if I should I list them seperately... or put them in a lot of three? Thanks again!

If they are all the same and the same color I would put one on and say "I have more if you need a set let me know" (or put the extras in your ebay store if you have one). Not sure if that's fee avoidance, but I see people doing it all the time. If they're the same but different color I might put them in one auction - you may not get as much for them, though (but it would save you on ebay fees).

Another thought: Sell a pair of two together, then offer the top bidder one more in an e-mail later. Or Sell two, then sell the one separately. People tend to like even numbers on sets of things, I think.

i have found a few of the mugs from a restaurant that was in columbus. torn down in 2000.

anyway, i always start them at $5.00 and they always sell. i know of at least 3 collectors that are trying to get something from every tiki restaurant they can. make sure you name the state these are from, if you can.

i found a wierd looking bowl from the restaurant last summer. even the buyer couldn't tell me what is was actually used for. it looked like a volcano in the center.

anyway, i paid 50 cents for it and it sold for over $80. not a bad find.

i think you will do well with these because of the color. very different from any i have seen.

Maybe this guy can answer a question about your mug. He seems to be somewhat of an expert on the subject. The first mug on his website looks the same as yours.

I've had great success with Tiki mugs. make sure to use all the buzz words you can!

Good Luck!

Sue

In the August issue of Country Home they did a survey with eBay and came up with a list of the 10 top items selling. I will start a new thread with those but his survey pertains to your Hawaiian items.

Here are 5 fun collecting categories Country Home Creative Director sees on the horizon. I just wrote the first two.
#1 Western: From pulp fiction to dramatic movie poster.
#2 Hawaiian tropical: Salute our 50th state by saying aloha to tiki cups, postcards and the like.
#3 1930's-50's tins: Highly functional with bright graphics
#4 Sculptural flashlights: They prove that just about anything grouped together can look good
#5 "Little gem" paintings: These little canvases pack plenty of charm, be they tiny florals or wee landscapes.
