Good morning... if anyone has any tips on getting good photos or scans of silver flatware pieces I would be very grateful. Lighting, background, flash no flash what are the tricks please... thanks so much

It's difficult, I know from experience.

If it's just a small ornate item, like a butter knife or souvenir spoon, not too difficult.

If it's a rather plain silver bowl, the problem is getting your own reflection in the picture (and you'd better be wearing something, too, LOL). Standing to one side may help. Or taking a picture of a feature of it closeup and showing that first. Otherwise, the links provided in the message above may help you.

I also will brighten up the photo when editing it, and that helps.

I haven't tried it, and I threw away my small Styrofoam Ice chest when we were moving that I meant to try out, but I have gotten an excellent picture of a diamond ring I sold by putting it inside an Styrofoam cup.

I think I'd try a small styrofoam ice chest and cut a hole for your camera. It should work!

edited because I can't spell.

GREAT! So glad this topic was posted. Now, that we have solved the silver and jewelry problems - HELP! I need info on better photographing clothing with metalic threads, and sequined and beaded evening tops. We handle lots of these and they are the devil to get good photographs of. We have the most problems with solid colors with thin, metalic threads, which make the dress elegant, but they are SO hard to pick up in a photo.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Thank you all for your suggestions. I bookmarked (and read) the websites... and will be trying the ice chest as it looks a great deal like one of the items for sale on one of the web sites. Thanks be to smart people who share! Have a $$$ day and week ya'll and happy!
