Starting in July, eBay is removing the regional settings & putting Zip Codes. Now if they would do this on bidders, we would know where the Hxxx Joe Blow lives.

Oh dear. This will help my stalker find me--with all the hours of new set-ups and precautions I've taken this week. Yikes. I wonder if I'll be able to delete that. . . .

Seriously, I don't like that. I live in a fairly small town and there is only one zip code. It won't be hard to find out that it is me listing things. I don't like my competitors knowing what I am getting out of things they have seen me buy. There are a few categories that other dealers can't figure out why I buy like buttons. If they see what I get out of some of the buttons, I won't ever be able to get any reasonable at auctions again. I hope people won't be able to search for sales within that zip code. Then they will really be able to find out what sales are mine. This isn't paranoia. In my area everyone is SO nosy.

Now kasue tell us you have only one stop sign. That's the sign of a really small town. Love small towns....
I double if you will be able to search zip codes though. Ebay wouldn't do that or would they?

Hi all,
I copied this from the email I received. Doesn't seem to me there's any problem.
What about my privacy?
ZIP Codes will not be displayed in search or listings, or on the Item Page. They will only be used to determine the distance between buyers and items.
Sellers may opt out of providing a ZIP Code for items while listing, revising, or re-listing items. If the seller opts out, their items will appear at the bottom of search results that have been sorted by distance. They will be excluded if a distance filter is applied.
Lucy
Edited to add: It's in the Goodbye Regions, Hello ZIP Codes! link.

No, Libra63, we have two stop lights now, but it is still pretty small! I don't know that the zip code being listed will help buyers in most cases. I think most items are send USPS, UPS or FEDEX and not picked up. It doesn't do any good for me to calculate shipping by the zip code as so many sellers are tacking on handling and materials fees anyway. I am an earring addict. Too often the earrings are sent first class with no insurance, and I am still charged $3.50 - $4.50 for what costs about 55 cents to mail. That zip code will only help people to zero in on where you live.

"search results that have been sorted by distance"
Isn't that just ducky?? I'll end up at the bottom of every buyer's search page.

Libra63 I live in a town so small we don't even have a stop sign coming through town, and definitely not a stop light!
Population about 1,500!
