I've got a couple of old ivory carvings (purchased in Bombay in the 1960s...may be antique but don't know). They're quite stained...do I clean them or not? If so, how? Thanks for help...They both ARE ivory and passed the "hot pin" test...

if they are stained and cracked due to age, better to leave them alone.

Don't attempt to clean them whatever you do. Ivory ages and that's how collectors like it. The "pin" test is also not a good idea. Hopefully, you did it where it cannot be seen? It's my understanding that the pin hole decreases the value.

Whining said all: If they are ivory DO NOT TOUCH!! If they are bone, oh well, what the hell, scrub them & give to Ralphie.
