I am posting this because I have been uneasy about the SNAFU in eBay billing. I have trusted eBay accounting...with 3,500 GTC store listings rolling over every month with .02 listing fee entries and .01 gallery fee entries (yes TWO entries for every blooming one of them) I simply can't take the time to reconcile the account.

Someone posted the following on the eBay Store Sellers board - I did the exercise and found that my account did balance and ebay owes me NADA...so to put your mind at ease you might want to follow these instructions:

eBay Stores, eBay Owes You Money

Chances are if you are a seller on eBay they owe you money. Only a small percentage of the sellers, less than 1/10 of 1% know they have been overbilled during the months of February and March. If you think it is perfectly OK for eBay to overcharge you then stop reading now and have a nice day, but if you want to know how much they owe you, follow these simple instructions carefully.

The March Snafu of eBay's VOODOO ACCOUNTING

Some of you might have received credit for the over billing and some only THINK they have received credit for the overbillings. The only way to know for sure is to go back and check your account status from March 1st (or from some date in early March) and see if there's a difference between your account balance and your running balance at the end of all your pages. I'm willing to bet that there is a difference in at least 9 out of 10 sellers, including those who THINK they received credits already.

Here's another brief tutorial on eBay's VOODOO ACCOUNTING and how you can verify that they owe you money and how much. Please follow these directions carefully (no variations):

1) Go to your seller account and click on "view account status."

2) On the left hand side you will see "view your account status" and check the box that says for up to 4 months and enter this date From: 03 - 01 - 2004 (Only dates in March will show the discrepancy - not even any remaining February dates). So, use only March 1st (I can't say that enough times). Next, the "To date" should be whatever yesterday's date is (as that day is complete).

3) Uncheck the box that allows you to view in pages, then click "view account status."

4) Next, depending on how many items you have sold between March 1st and yesterday, you will see a number of "pages." Go to the last page listed and scroll all the way down to the end to yesterday's date.

5) That last item listed (through yesterday) at the bottom of that last page shows your "running balance." I'm 90% sure there's going to be a difference between that number and what eBay refers to as your "current balance." Subtract your "running balance" from what eBay states is your "current balance" and that is how much eBay owes you.

6) From the top right of any of the seller account pages, click on "download" to create a file copy. This will be an excel copy and should help if this case goes beyond some date in July when you are no longer allowed to access the VOODOO.

Don't go back and view any single monthly statements as that will get you nowhere. Follow the instructions I list above and let us know here what you discover. Please cut and paste my instructions (above) and send them to any other sellers you know personally. Post my instructions in other threads on eBay. Post in other forums. Post them all over the internet.

Yes, they may have posted a lot of credits at one time at this looked great (on paper as they say). However, (I theorize) that when they changed billing systems the VOODOO ACCOUNTING set in and those credits faded into the sunset. I've read here several people ask "when is eBay going to fix this problem?" The answer: eBay is biding their time since as some date in July (maybe July 1st), the March VOODOO ACCOUNTING will disappear, at which time this case of mass fraud/internet theft (or whatever you want to call it) is going to be a lot more difficult to prove. You, as an individual have little or no chance of collecting on the February double billings after it disappears completely in July. If you have noticed this error and have been in touch with customer service you have probably got a run-around. A multitude of excuses and delays. A waste of time and energy. What you can do is visit this eBay thread in the technical forum and read what others are doing. Enter any replies to this post in that forum. Thanks!

My isn't.

I haven't sold much this year. But I have overpaid eBay by $50.00. I owe eBay more than I made well not really but almost. I was lucky I only had one page to go through. I didn't sell anything in May.
Thanks for the heads up.

Mine is off 4.86 not much considering how much I sell BUT for the life of me I can't see where on the account pages to download into a file.

I asked about that in one of the groups. If you have not been switched over to the new system yet you won't see the download button. Your account page will look different if you have been switched.

Mine had no problems either, but I was billed twice last month (or the month before) both for around $2000.00 each, so I have to make sure they did really miss a month somewhere along the line. Our credit card number was stolen right around that time, so it's been difficult to view my credit card statements like we usually do (online).

Who do we write to to get this straightened out or do we just sit here and wait?

It seems like the sellers that pay through PayPal or debit card are the ones most mainly hit. Well so much for my profit for the month.

Neglus: Thanks for posting this! Here's what I found:

Current balance - $380.48
Running balance - 194.87

Difference of $185.61 YIKESSSSSSSSSSSSS!

I may call Ebay tomorrow.

I have always maintained their billing is a little off-kilter. You would wonder how though, if its all strictly automated - things must get dropped added or duped during system glitches. (That is probably another reason for me, I am happy to list thru Vendio as a cross-refererence resource.)

y'all might want to look at your cell phone bills a little better, too. Unreal the amount of weird system errors in those! One company, somehow their provisioning for free mobile to mobile got screwed up and anyone who had that feature which is practically everybody was charged for MTM calls. I think only about 15% of the clients caught it or looked at their bill enough to inquire about it.

Mine looks ok. But what are you supposed to do if they have made a mistake? How do you contact them and get your money back?

Ebay owes me $5.21

I am having trouble downloading the excel sheet however. I keep getting a "page not responding" message from ebay..."The eBay page or feature you are attempting to access is not responding."

neglus, thanks for posting the info. I have shared it with my ebay friends and finally
found time to try to download my account info. Guess what? I can NOT access March 2004 at all! It says you can download up to 4 months. I tried 2 01 2004 to 6 30 2004 That didn't work. The only thing that did work was 4 01 2004 thru 6 30 2004. I can't even get into march download at all! It will view on the screen as an "invoice" but I tried the left side, "View your account status" and chose 03 01 2004 through 03 31 2004 - My error is that I have an invalid start date!

Sorry Paloma - I think that is why the person that posted that message originally wanted everyone to download March figures while they were still available. If you numbers are out of synch you still may be able to get ebay to work on it for you.

I am naive enough to think that this is not an Ebay conspiracy or anything like that...I think they had mega conversion problems and will get it all worked out eventually.

Mine numbers were wrong. I wrote eBay explained that the paypal payment was way over the limit. I told them what my ending balance on the invoice was. They wrote me back and they told me what my balance was and it was the balance on the invoice not in the box that says pay paypal one time payment of --
When I went back in about a week later it was djucted back down to where is should be so now I am back to normal. Thank goodness.
Thanks for the heads up....
