I just ran into something new. I found out this morning that I will be away for the weekend and be back on the 5th. I was writing to my bidders to let them know that they would hear from me when I returned. I wrote a few and then got a message that I had reached my daily limit of E-bay e-mails. I have never seen that before. Can anyone explain this?

Never heard of that. Maybe the email you got wasn't really from eBay. Did you click on any links in it?

When I hit the button "Send Message" the page came back up with a notice in red that I had reached my daily limit of e-mails. So it was from E-bay. Why would there be a limit?

I did not find anything on the Ebay site about it, but that doesn't surprise me.

The only other solution to notifying your bidders is to add to the item description for each auction, stating that you will be out of town "from X date to X date" and you will answer all emails when you return.

Good luck,
Patty

I've run into this before using my unofficial ebay ID ... it has something to do with not having a credit card on file, or the # of feedbacks ... I can't remember the criteria.

***Marketplace Safety: Changes to Contact eBay Member Feature***
Date: 10/21/03 Time: 10:57:23 AM PDT

To best protect and safeguard our members, we are making two changes to the Contact eBay Member feature aimed at reducing Spam and solicitations for off-eBay transactions. The Contact eBay Member feature is only needed when members do not have a transaction in common. Buyers and sellers will continue to have direct access to each other's email addresses when they make a purchase/sale through a successful eBay listing.

These changes include:

*Limiting the number of times a member can use Contact eBay Member to 10 per day. Members with a 0 or negative feedback rating will be limited to one use per day.

*Safety education messages in emails sent through this feature. The new text at the top of the email will warn recipients of the risk in sending money in response to an unsolicited offer.

We would like to take the opportunity to remind the Community that offers made through the Ask Seller a Question or Contact eBay Member features for purchasing items off the eBay site are risky and against eBay policy. Members that accept these unsolicited email offers will not be able to take advantage of eBay's protection and reputation tools such as Feedback and buyer protection.

Regards,
eBay

Hi. Thanks wgm and everyone for the info. I think it must be because the auctions haven't closed yet. It says 10 but I didn't send near that many. Good to know this info for the future.

Why are you contacting them through ebay anyway?

You are a seller and the bidder e-mail addresses are available to you. Contact them through your regular e-mail, especially if they have AOL or earthlink e-mails.

Something else different today, too. At end of auction, eBay now seems to be shielding the buyer's email address (no option given to directly contact them). You have to go thru eBay's email system. Is this getting ridiculous!

I have had 10 store sales this morning, and nothing has changed for me regarding the buyer's email address - I can see it just fine.

I checked auctions that closed earlier in the week, and all the email addresses of winning bidders are visible as well.

Hi. Well, I am back from my trip and am now trying to catch up on contacting my buyers. I write personal "after auction e-mails". I have no e-mail addresses listed next to the buyer's e-bay name on the auction page anymore so the only way I have to contact them is with the "contact member". I did about 10 of them and it won't let me do any more. So how can I write the buyers since I have no e-mail addresses. This is the way I have contacted my buyers for years. What is going on? I feel like a dummy. I must be missing something. Please help.

Mom - you can customize the way your buyers are displayed in your "My Ebay" - by user name OR email address (you do this by clicking on the "CUSTOMIZE" button in the upper right hand corner of your "sold" section.

You know, this might not have anything to do with your problem, Mommoo, but are you sure you're signed in on eBay?

Lately it seems every time I do anything I'm having to sign in again.

Neglus, thank you so much. I can now write to my other buyers. I think some of these changes are ridiculous. I swear that E-bay is making things tougher for us with some of the changes. It almost seems like they don't want any contact between sellers and buyers.

Lucy, it does seem as if we have to sign in a lot more times. Is that another change?

neglus - I don't see an option under Customize for displaying buyers' email addresses, just their IDs. What am I missing?
I already have their IDs shown on myebay.

I must be getting singled out because I don't see any way to directly contact a bidder (in a ordinary auction) except thru eBay's mail system. Certainly not thru 'Contact Member'. After you use their mail the first time you can make a note of that person's address I think. But that rather defeats the purpose.
I'm going to start putting my email address in the auction so at least the potential buyer has an option to contact me.

Riverfarm, what i had to do this morning is the following - I used the customize that was mentioned and changed to e-mail addresses rather than e-bay ID. I really would like to have both. Anyway, then I cut and pasted the e-mail address onto a blank e-mail form. Then I had to put in the Auction Name and # in the Subject Line. Then I had to write the friendly little e-mail to the buyer. I am not feeling friendly towards E-bay about this. It takes way too long to send a winning e-mail. I just can't believe they have screwed this up. It was so nice when we could click on the buyer's address and the e-mail form appeared with the address and subject line already filled out. If anyone has a better way to do this please let us know.

Thanks Mommoo. Realized I was clicking on the wrong customize button, the current auction list one. Not sure if life is getting more complicated or I'm getting more simple-minded.
