I am very used to getting 'spoof' emails from ebay and paypal account hacker wannabes, on a daily basis. But, this is a new one ....
Husband and I were out of town for 3 days delivering some antiques, and of course I came back to a lot email to sift thru ... I saw this one from '[email protected]' with subj. 'Your payment to [email protected]' ... when I opened the email, showing images and enabling the links, it has the paypal logo and format and along the right hand side, a boxed in area stating word for word how to protect your paypal account etc....... along the left 2/3rds of page shows, in list form,
Protecting the security of your PayPal account is our primary concern, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
If you have not made this payment please click the link below, then fill in the correct information to verify your identity.
........ then a pale yellow boxed in area that reads, "Click here to verify your account and cancel payment if you did not authorize it."

At first I said to husband, "oh, looks like Lex (our #2 son) bought an expansion to his Links game (a computer golf game he plays) while we were gone, and he's gonna owe us $35 ... (shrug... no big deal) ... then Lex gets home and I ask him about it, and he says, 'no' he didn't order anything while we were gone ... hmmmmm... maybe number 1 son, that stayed here while we were gone (to keep eye on #2 son), ordered it. ... but then I thought I'd check, and I went to our paypal acct. to look, and NO payment of $34.95 went out of our account! ... so I went back to that email and held cursor over the 'click here to cancel payment' box, and it did NOT have an https prefix! ... dang!
I've fwd'd it along with the details to paypal, and have not heard back from them yet, but I tell ya, this one realllllly is clever and spooky, and is the first one I have ever gotten using this angle/con
I even went back into the paypal account and check History/Advanced-Search and search by the Transaction Number shown in the email, and that trans.number does not exist.

I sure wish these nut jobs would get a life. Instead of trying to rip people off, they could be enjoying life by taking a bike trip on the Erie Canal. LOL!
Speaking of. Marcia, we went biking again this past Sunday and ate at your favorite restaurant, Fishers. I just love that place! My mom once again fell off her bike in slow motion and ended up in a bunch of weeds. There was an EMT within seeing distance. He rushed over and picked her up. You should have seen my mother swooning. This guy was gorgeous!!! I was laughing so hard at her the guy had to think I was a nut. Her problem is, she's not used to hand brakes and uses her feet like Fred Flintstone. We're going to have to have the bottoms of her shoes re-inforced! LOL!
Maybe we can get together the weekend after the 4th. We can meet at Fishers after our bike ride. Bring your other half so mine has someone to talk to.

Wow - that is a good one. I haven't received that one yet. I thought the popular one was "we have added the email address [email protected] to your account". That one spooked me at first, but now I get one of those a day - not to mention countless ebay ones...and the bank ones are becoming more popular too - update your Citibank account, BankOne, etc.

That IS a spooky one! Somehow they got your email address...do they really take the trouble to "customize" these or do they just use the ebay id of every seller/buyer name they can glean and add "@aol.com" and throw the emails out there? do they do the same with yahoo, comcast, earthlink etc etc..????
