Scanning is the most tedious of my ebay chores! I always have to find something mindless (no offense) to do while I wait to place the next batch on the scanner bed. I am a little tired of Free Cell (streak of 17 wins) LOL

So......what are your plans for the long weekend? We are staying in town - shipping (UGH) on Saturday and then hopefully ignoring eBay on Sunday and listing some on Monday. Summer has FINALLY arrived this week in Minnesota and so have the skeeters. Forget about competing perfumes at backyard barbeques..we all reek of Deep Woods Off!

Ebay is boring right now!!
1st thing in the am - we're off to the Flordia Gulf of Mexico to do some scalloping, fishing and lots of eating. I can't image going out on a boat without being able to jump in the water to scallop. The only bad part is I made a deal with my hubby years ago that he has to clean all the fish we catch (all the time) and I have to clean the scallops - now that's an ugly job??? lol
Can't wait

You get out of the boat to scallop?? I guess I never thought about how one caught scallops! You don't just throw in a net and bring them in? Anyway sounds wonderful! We are going out on our pontoon on the lake behind our house and will just go swimming on Sunday (hopefully weather will be nice)if we can get the ladder I just bought on ebay installed in time. The sight of me trying to get back on board without a ladder is not a pretty picture!

Ebay and an auction on Saturday.
BBQ in the backyard by the pool hopefully...Rain in the forecast.
Monday and Tuesday we're staying at the Caesar's boat for a gourment meal and some gambling fun!

Hey, maybe if I'm lucky (which I'm not) I'll win a BIG jackpot and won't have to go back to posting auctions on Wednesday!

Going to stop at the Ryan's Place restaurant in Los Banos on the way to the San Jose Flea Markethttp://www.sjfm.com/ on Saturday. Spend the night near the Frisco A/P, then on to the waterfront and pier 39 for a while. I hope to find deals on art and goodies from vendors. Then good times at the USS Hornet museum http://www.uss-hornet.org/ in Alameda to watch the Bay area fireworks from the flight deck. Spend the night in Alameda, then a swing up towards the north coast wineries for dinner at The Mendocino Hotel http://www.mendocinohotel.com/packages.html in the Victorian Dining room. Yes, the chef there is exquisite. Then we'll meander home through the wetlands past the route that Chippie the sea lion took.

Hope everyone has a safe Fourth!

Neglus -- I discovered something that may help you with scanning quicker. Do you load up the scan bed with several postcards? In other words, instead of scanning them one at a time, you can scan 4-6 of them at a time and then crop them out one at a time. Sure would be faster. I don't know how you scan, but I just discovered this with scanning my pictures. Sometimes I can get two pages on the scan bed.

Anyway, tomorrow is my birthday. I hit the big 4-0. Not sure if I want to celebrate or hide! LOL ... I'm sure that my family and boyfriend have something up their sleeves for this weekend.

Happy b-day Diane! Don't worry about 40 ..it's pretty painless ! I scan 3 at a time and then crop - 4 would fit but I spend more time trying to make sure they are straight than I'd save.

Park..who was/is Chippie the Sea Lion?

We're going to a rather large party on the 4th. Friends of my boyfriend throw this party every year. They have a large pool so we swim. It's a party full of musicians so there's a lot of jamming going on. Monday I'm having a cookout here at home.

Great thread...Happy 40 I remember those days. I'm scanning a bunch also trying to get caught up before I pick up another bunch this weekend. We are just going to the Flea to sell,I may set-up on the outside with a bunch of friends. I have a booth inside also. Hubby runs that.

My husband and I will be going to see his family in Waxahachie near Dallas. It has been planned for at least 8 weeks and was going to be a relaxing trip. Then my husband's mother had a tiny stroke about 10 days ago.

My husband's poor father does not know how to cook AT ALL. He joked and said he is out of clean underwear so he's gonna go buy some more. He knows how to vacuum and boil water, but I know he's never even cooked an egg, used a washing machine, or cleaned a toilet. He said he has learned at least one new skill and says he has "dishpan hands" now.

My mother-in-law has been sitting on a stool at the stove and cooking with one hand while he fetches everything the last week or so.

I suspect my husband and I will be cooking and cleaning all weekend up there, but it will be nice to see the family. At least my husband's brother and his family live only a few blocks away and will be helping from now on I guess. But they don't cook a lot or like housework much, if you get my drift.

Anyway, I'm making deviled eggs and packing. I already baked 3 loaves of whole wheat bread. My husband is making big batches of pasta salad and cole slaw tonight after work. His brother is going to grill some meat when we get up there. My in-laws have a big veggie garden to pick from too. Yum!

I wish my scanner was working. It has refused ever since I did one of the Microsoft updates a few months back. Nothing I did seems to fix it, new drivers, checked cables, yada yada, nothing.

Then I wanted a make a mini electrolysis unit to descale old but not valuable coins I have found with my metal detector. I needed a 12 volt transformer, found one laying around, stripped the wires and used it with alligator clips, a cup of water and a spoon per the instructions I had. Worked great.

When I tried to hook up the scanner again and trouble shoot it yet one more time, guess where I realized the transformer had come from? LOL!

I found a universal transformer out in the garage(I have way too much stuff!) and set it for the scanner, but no workie scanner. Oh, well, it was a cheapie and I use my digital camera for listing anyway.

Wow, Patty, sounds like you'll have a full weekend and that you've been very busy! Sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. It's sweet of you guys to help out like that! I know many families that would just love to have children like you guys! Enjoy your trip!

Chreyl,

Thanks! It's the least I can do. My mother-in-law has nursed us all through all sorts of illnesses.

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes, everybody. That is so sweet! I'm having trouble dealing with the big 4-0. I feel like 20 inside, but when I look in the mirror, I definitely see the big 4-0.

Anyway, Patty, sorry to hear about your MIL. I do know what you mean. I had to help take care of dad when he came home from the hospital. I had to do things to "help" him that I still cry over to this day. But when I thought about all the things he did for ME, well, it just made it easier to handle. I hope your MIL gets well soon.

I have a scanner here and you are welcome to it if you would like it. It's not a very good one, but it does the job. I was going to list it to get rid of it, but it's yours for shipping if you want it. I think it needs a new "heat" bulb, or whatever you call it because it leaves yellow dots or streaks on some scans. It's doing me no good sitting here. I have a good scanner that my boyfriend bought for me to further my ebay "career". LOL ...

Diane,

Thanks for the generous offer. I could have gone out and bought a better/another one anytime. I was just determined to make that dang thing work. A personal challenge, you know.

I guess I had other priorities after I didn't get it to work.

Thanks again,
Patty

Diane - why celebrate your 40th birthday when you can just celebrate the first anniverary of your 39th

As for me - I doing nothing on the fourth, I will probably go up to the roof and watch the fireworks from Petco Park and the Bay and what ever else can be seen from here but other than that, I hate being in crowds anymore so I'll probably just do some more office clean up and listing.

Son and wife are coming tonight for the weekend. Husband and I are both in the 4th of July parade (to be held on the 3rd this year)--he with the historical society and museum, I with the chamber of commerce board. Hot and tiring, but fun when friends holler at you from the sidelines. Sunscreen required.

Wienie roast, my favorite kind of outdoor meal, at our cabin's campfire. Sneaking in some ebay listings when people are elsewhere. The best kind of long weekend, I say! Just glad to be alive in this pretty place.

P.S. Lucy, you really *must* come visit!

Wow - bizzycrocheting, Happy 4-0! you will see life only gets better!! And once the birthday itself is over, it's kind of a relief that you actually made it through! I'd love to be there again! This year I celebrated the 18th anniversary of my 29th birthday! People really have to think to figure that out! LOL!

Meadowlark - so sorry to hear about your Mom in law, but it sounds like she has gumption, cooking with one hand - she will probably make a good recovery. I used to live just north of Dallas - I miss it, but I moved home, back up north to help my Mom when she had some mini-strokes. Now my girls are married here and if I moved back to Frisco, I'd have to take all five grandbabies with me! Their parents won't let me. sigh.

Hey neglus - we have a lot in common. We are spending time on our pontoon out on the lake behind our house, too. It's an old boat, but it's fun. We live on a small lake, but there will be lots of boats out to watch when we aren't boating ourselves and then Sunday night they have a good fireworks display. I always take this week off so I can have some fun in the sun! And I know what you mean about the ladder - I bought one last year and was shocked at how much they cost. But I wouldn't be getting in or out of the boat without one!

Everyone have a fun and safe holiday - and remember the reason for the season! Pray for those men over there fighting for us to be able to enjoy another 4th!

bizzy: Happy B-Day!!! When you hit 52 as I did this year you will look back fondly at 40, so enjoy. Really, I have found that the older I get the more settled and satisfied with myself I become. The best and happiest years of your life are just beginning.

Meadow: Sorry to hear about your mom-in-law. I had a slight stroke several years back and it can be very irritating to temporarily lose some of your facultiies. Sounds like she had a mild one so she should be just fine.

I took a day off yesterday, just couldn't look at comp anymore. So today I'm back at it. Husband and I are going to his moms' for a big cook-out on Sunday. She called last night and said she has chicken, ribs, brats and STEAKS!!! Wild horses couldn't keep me away. My mom-in-law and my bro-in-law just moved into a new home in Lawrenceburg, In (I live in Fairfield, Oh just north of Cincinnati, and we gave them a new Webber gas grill for a house warming gift so it looks like the new grill will get a workout.

Other than that we'll be sitting on our second story deck to watch the fireworks (great view), husband will be working on the yard and I guess we all know what I'll be doing!!!

Everyone have a SAFE and happy 4th.

God Bless America!!!
