I have a new buyer, who said that she is sending an electronic check, she gives the account #, routing# and check #. I have had electronic checks via Paypal before, but I am not sure what she means in this case. She lives in the U.S. I am in Canada. I have written her back, but no reply. Can someone enlighten me please?

Tell her politely that you only accept electronic checks through Paypal.
Some businesses (not a great percentage in my opinion) are set up to take electronic checks. You are not, and it is not worth the effort if you are a small to medium seller, and completely unecessary. Paypal handles all of that.
The terms of your auction probably state what forms of payment you take, right? She is oblifgated to follow those terms, not dictate them to you. She may be confused how a Paypal e-check works, though and thinking she can just give you the info. She is either a newbie (more likley) or a scammer.
A direct bank transfer via Paypal is faster than a PayPal e-check. Paypal advises you that when your customer picks the e-check feature, you must wait (as much as 4 days) for the verification that the funds actually left her account and are then in yours. They tell you DO NOT send the merchandise until it actually shows the transaction has completed beacuse it can be reversed during that wait. I believe the item is shown as "pending" in your Paypal account history until it actaully is transferred over.

Thanks meadowlark. Yes, I clearly state my forms of payment. I have had plenty of electronic checks via Paypal, and I don't send the item until it is cleared, but this was a new one on me. I am certainly not set up to take any direct payment other than Paypal. I'll write and tell her. She has 0 feedback, so probably is just learning the ropes.

She may be referring to ACH -automated clearing house, which is popular on ebay -australia.
Do you have online banking with your checking account??
This is how one pays her bills online, stating the other party routing number and account number.
But if she has a Canadian bank account,i doubt if online banking would work between the two of you.
Did she ask you for your bank routing number and account number??She cant send money to you without knowing yours.

No, I don't have online banking, and I don't think it would work between the 2 countries. I have asked her so send a money order instead. It's just a small amount, but I still don't want any hitches. This is the first time is about 7,000 transactions that I have been asked to accept an electronic check outside of Paypal.
