Hi. Just signed in and one of my auctions says "you have one question to answer?"
This might be a good thing answering from ebays system i/o your own email address?

I havent been listing much or maybe not getting questions so when did they start this?

Neroter,

It started in the last few days. I read something as well about being able to post the Q&A to that auction so others with the same question will see the answer, like FAQs.

Here's a link to some info:

I noticed it when I found the watch area in the same section about 2 weeks ago. I haven't yet had a question but do you think that will be a way for ebay to find out if you transactions off of ebay. I guess the question that the buyer asks you and your answer will appear at the bottom of the auction. Now, I don't know that for sure because I haven't had a question yet.

'Morning! That will be very interesting indeed. It will give a better insight to the seller's character. Wanna bet that some sellers won't respond?

If you want to know what most of the new ills are that eBay is going to foist upon us before they happen, you may want to subscribe to the free AuctionBytes newsletter. I have no connection with AuctionBytes. I just suscribe and get the news in advance, daily. Go to:

I received 1 this morning, I saw it in my ebay, I clicked on the number 1 it took me directly to the question, a buyer wanting to know if I had a shirt I have up in another size. I now just received from Ebay the question in my email, which I found a bit confusing because I had answered it about 4 hours earlier. With this new process I think it is a good idea that ebay also lets you know in an email, because I know quite a few people that do not rely on their my ebay page.

I was just going to ask about this. why I opened this is baffling but there you are talking about it. I just noticed it also. How Stupid!!!!!! people who have 100's of auctions,,,,,,,what a joke. Does e bay REALLY think sellers are going to go through each and every auction to see if there is a question? I only have one going and so I happened to spy this, 2 questions. I replied and said display it in the auction. I went to the auction and I see nothing different.

And the Beat goes on,,,,,,,,

Hi Jack, I was able to see I had a question through through my ebay page items currently selling, there is a column for questions, I clicked on the number 1 and the question came right up. Also, ebay does send you an email of the question quite a bit later. I also opted to have the question and answer appear in my listing. I did check and it is near the bottom right above shipping & payment info.

I'm not sure why you would think that.

The point of this exercise is not to put sellers on the spot; the point is to share information by answering 1 email once rather than answering maybe a dozen or more asking the same question.

Properly used, it will save work for the sellers.

Sellers don't have to respond publicly. They still have the option of privately emailing the questioner. And questioners can request that the response be private, as well.

Tell ya what, guys, why don't you use this feature for a while and then come back with opinions about it?

Hi...this feature was used on a site called Bargain & Haggle.
It was effective.

It is also in use on AusAuction.com a small Aussie auction website. I always thought it was good idea sort of like an FAQ for each auction.

I'm not sure when it comes to Power Sellers that have automated canned responses that one would get any answers with this. They may be using other auction management software than My eBay, so they would never see the new feature unless they chiose to go look.

Earthmum,
I have been frustrated in the past that I could not get an answer from some sellers with thousands of auctions running. I suspect that was what you referred to? If anyone shops much on eBay a lot they will likely run into this.

I think thay they figure they are playing a numbers game and will get enough bids even if they don't take the time to answer. In fact, they have so many questions, it's more profitable to ignore them when they have thousands of listings up. I won't buy unless they will answer.

Yahoo has had that type of system ever since I started selling there 5 years ago. Personally, I don't care much for it. I don't want everyone on earth seeing an answer to a question that is relevant to the person that asked the question that likely isn't relevant to the next. I would rather deal with the buyer more directly through e-mail.

I even know of some sellers like the one in the link that will not respond to any ask a seller question given through the ebay link. AOL and Earthlink have much to do with it as well as the need for much more information before they can answer any type of question.

In this auction, they even have a link to a form that you fill in which also contains the info they need from their item so they can answer most questions quickly.

Stone, I see in the auction that they have a link to thier own email system, and I can understand that. I have the same problem with my eBay email address. It is being harvested in some fashion. The great majority of people who I buy from would not even think about passing on my address to a spammer. It may evenbe eBay employees selling htem on the side.

Could you elaborate on the below? I do not fully get your this portion of your statement, unless you mean that these two services intentionally or accidentally promote spam or let it through?:

...AOL and Earthlink have much to do with it...

Aol and Earthlink both block most legite ebay e-mails and considers them spam. If you ever get someone that has either of those ISP's and they are e-mailing stating that they are waiting for you to contact them, and you have been, it is because your e-mails have been weeded out as spam. If you deal direct through your own e-mail and don't send any links, you can generally get through. And this is why many sellers are going this way.

Stone,

Thanks! I am on earthlink but do not use their spam blocker so I don't have the problem. It's is too stupid for use!
