Last night, I downloaded and installed some critical updates for microsoft. Well, since doing so, I can't get Vendio's webpage through my explorer. I can access it through AOL though. First it says it can't find the page and then it says some other error. What should I do to correct this? Do I need to unstall my explorer and reinstall it without those "critical updates"? Thanks, oh computer gurus!

can you see anyweb site? if not check your connections to the internet through IE
if so check you settings under tools> options

or better yet download mozilla and use that instead of IE

Diane - you'd better post this in the "vendio Services - Sales Manager" community section below. THe techs there should be able to help.

twelvepole -- I can access virtually all other webpages. I can get into ebay and others. I just cannot access vendio. It's weird. I did go into microsoft and checked their download page. It said to download some kind of patch because there is a problem with the high security pages. I did that and rebooted, but still cannot access vendio.

neglus -- That's the next stop. But first I wanted to see if there are others that can help me here first. I won't get my answer until tomorrow from the vendio techies, and hope to clear this up today.

An update: I went through my system and deleted out the updates, rebooted, but still cannot access vendio. I don't know what else to do!

aintrichyet -- I don't have those other programs. I only have IE.

Tom -- I don't have windows XP. I have windows 98.

I did try overwriting IE 6. But the problem still exists. It is only with Vendio. I can access all other internet sites through my IE.

I have an idea. Is there a way that I can go in and "accept" vendio in through security or something?

Any other suggestions?

"First it says it can't find the page and then it says some other error. "

what is the 'other error'?

aintrich -- It's the page that you get when it tells you to "click here for internet options".

I've tried to access it again and again and now it won't even show any pages. It just looks for the site, says "done", but the msn splash page is still there.

Did you check your SECURITY SETTINGS in IE:

This is the error message I got this time:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

ok bizz ... i was wondering if it was a DNS error ... a lot of times if i hit that error, a call to my cable provider helped me get thru doing the settings correctly ... BUT, before you do that,... try this ...

i am FAR from being a computer expert at all, but a friend of ours who IS good with computers told me if i'm ever having ANY computer trouble, to first try the 'japanese fix' (that's what he called it) ...

that is, ... boot down and off and turn off the computer ... next, (and this is the important part) unplug EVERYTHING from the wall outlets .... (got that?... EVERYTHING) ....
Then, walk away from your computer for at least 6 minutes ...
then, go plug everything back in and wait at least one full minute ... then turn your computer on.

he gave us that advice about 6 months ago, and i am nothing short of AMAZED how the several times we've had a computer problem that i just couldn't fix, HIS 'method' worked! ...

I can't swear it will work for a dns error, 'cuz i haven't had one of those in a long time. But it's easy and it's worth a try ... good luck!

bizzy - this site may help you....

http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/?pr=newsgwin98&product=w98

It is a MS site, but there is no charge for tech support because it is peer-to-peer. It's really easy to navigate. I have XP, and the few times I have visited the site set up like this but for XP users, I got assistance really quick in a language I could understand...

Someone has posted a similar problem down in the Vendio Service thread - they say WEB TV and MSNtv users (including buyers attempting checkout) cannot access Vendio at all.

bizzy - the first time I went to the site I posted was when I experienced problems from downloading an unpdate also (it affected my scrolling). There is a list on the page which has recent problems, and some of them did pertain to problems after updating. If you can't find the answer anywhere else, maybe you can find it there...

no, the list of issues on the MS site I posted...

There's another MS site I am trying now to find the link to - it's chatroom based, but also free - and the people there are "experts" with Windows. I will post it just as soon as I can find it...

download and try another browser such as mozilla or netscape... if that works it is your IE settings... or if you just want to see, set your security at low and try vendio again...

clear your cookies and cache, check any spyware and firewalls you have installed and see if at one time you blocked vendio?

Twelvepole -- I deleted out my cookies and temp files, but it still doesn't load vendio's page. I also tried putting the security settings to low and that didn't work. It has something to do with IE 6 or the patch I installed. Everything I have tried didn't work. I looked at the site that wgm recommended, but what they are suggesting involves working in DOS and I'm too afraid to try something that radical. I have the cd to reload windows 98. I believe IE is also on it if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps the best route would be to uninstall IE and then reinstall it from the cd. What do you think? I'm afraid to download any other browsers at this point. I'm not that computer saavy and I'm afraid to really screw up my computer.

Thanks so much to everybody who is trying so hard to help me with this perplexing problem.

if you can uninstall IE and reinstall it, you can easily download and install another browser, however if you are not comfortable, then yes, try IE 6 again...

I don't think the patch would just stop Vendio... this site is pretty benign compared to many others.

Hi all,

Diane, just so you know it's not only you, Niel has posted on the Vendio Services board. Also, I just heard from Roadsmith and she's having the same problems.

I've been typing auctions and uploading pictures all day today and haven't had any trouble getting to Vendio through IE.

Twelvepole -- I have McAfee firewall and viruscan. If I were to download Mozilla or Netscape, how would this effect the firewall and viruscan, if at all? Also, I was reading up on firefox. Do you know anything about it?

Lucy -- It's weird. When I opened up ebay through IE, all of my auctions were messed up. For example, my pictures weren't there and the graffics were gone. I got so scared! Then I went to aol, opened up ebay, checked my auctions there and everything was fine. This makes absolutely no sense!

Hi Diane,

I just checked out a handful of your auctions. Through IE. They look just fine. Pictures are there, templates are in place, fonts are good. All's well.

I have no idea what's going on. About the only thing I can suggest is a system restore, back to a day when everything was working.

I use SBC as my ISP and the other day they updated their operating system and everything went south. Lots of "This page can not be displayed" Went into IE and everything worked but... very slow. A couple of days later everything went back to normal. I don't know what happened but I think SBC fixed it. Could it be your ISP has done something to their operating system?? If that is the case, nothing that you do will make any difference. I also had a problem a couple of weeks ago where I had downloaded a translator program and didn't re set it and it kept trying to translate everything (Including HTML). Just a couple of thoughts.
Kevin
