I have a couple "vintage" Nikon lens I have been tasked to sell. They are older manual, metal body lenses in excellent condition ,(no really - these bad boys were babied!) with hard cases. Is there a venue other than ebay where these may do better or specific info that I `should include in the description to keep q's to a minimum `and bids at a maximum

Oh yeah - these are not zooms - they are static wide angle and telephotos.

fenix, your absence is felt over in the slime pit, although I'd just as soon be like you and stay away too...

I've had good luck with trading telescope eyepieces at AstroMart classifieds. Honest collectors and fans, everybody is familiar with PayPal etc, lots of the buyers and sellers have Ebay ID's for checking feedback. It's not an auction, so you'll need to have some idea of value. Their sign up is free, and I've never gotten any spam. You might take the lenses into an independent camera shop, see what they'll offer you, and go from there. In addition to telescope stuff, they also have categories for film and digital cameras. I just looked at the film camera section, and it looks pretty active. Those lenses are worth some money, good luck!

Learned group of respondents tonight - a teacher and a Prof

Prof - have to admit I have missed some of the members of the slime pit, just not ready to dive back in,especially since I just inhereted a basement, garage, and brimming storage unit full of items to sort thru, evaluate and liquidate so not sure how much extra time I'll have on hand especially since all this must be done in the next few months before the much awaited move finally happens - Many thanks for the heads up on the site - will look into it tonight.

Fenix,

We are now doing our camera buying in digital and newer Nikon equipment so I am not as up to date on selling "vintage" (but not antique) equipment. When we were selling some of our older equipment a few years ago we used the Shutterbug publication. Rather than place ads and deal with the response, I found dealers who were selling the type of equipment we wanted to sell and called them. We were able to get a lot price that might be lower than selling them one at a time but it took less time and trouble than selling piece by piece. Since I have not used Shutterbug for buying or selling for a few years I am not sure how effective it still is. I do note on their site that they still have classifieds. http://www.shutterbug.net/classifieds/ Shutterbug is available at most magazine outlets.

If you do list them on eBay be sure you put every thing printed on the lens that relates to the model, focal length, f/stops, etc. Look at the glass for any fogging, spots, and nicks and describe them in detail. Look through the open lens from the back for any clouding.

There are a number of sites on line that deal in older Nikon equipment and there are both collectors and users for the older equipment in good condition. Have you Googled the name and numbers of your lenses? As more and more photographers move to digital they are giving their older equipment to my husband's school so I have to research the value of the donation. A recent large Nikon donation brought up a lot of hits on Google and I was able to get values on all of it.

Good luck with your task.
