Hey sparkz, just wanted to say thanks for your help on the appliances [waffle maker and radio.] Both did better than I expected and I am so glad I asked for your expertise! I may have tried to plug them in and blew the whole thing!! So thank you!
[And I am chuckling here too, because I am from now on staying away from appliances though!!! - They always seem like the most convoluted things to pack and worrying they will get broken, unless of course your stocked like sears or something.] :-0)

Neroter12...Glad to hear you did well on them. There was no expertise involved. School of hard knocks more than anything. It gets a little scarey when a jolt of AC knocks you across the room at the same instant the breakers blow and plunge the house into darkness. Be especially careful of the old radios. The original plug that came on them will plug into an outlet either way. It's possible to have a "hot" chassis with them. Many women were electrocuted by them in the 20's and 30's by trying to change stations while doing the dishes. The set screw that holds the knob on rests agains the brass shaft of the tuner. Touching that screw with one hand while the other is in the sink can have tragic results.

I took an old toaster to the desk at a big antique mall and was talking to my husband about the purchase. I casually said. "Wonder if it works." The young man behind the counter said. "Let's try it." He plugged it in, there was a horrendous flash, and all the lights in the huge antique mall went out. The young man quietly put the toaster out of sight under the counter. From somewhere in the mall the manager came stumbling up to the desk saying "What happened." We all stood there innocent as could be till someone found the breaker and put the lights back on. We bought the toaster (it was only for show) very quietly and left.

Photo...LOL, I hope you got a substantial discount because of the condition. That's how I get some of my best deals. Buy a dead item, bring it home, open it up and give it CPR, bring it back to life and sell it at a 1000% profit. I once bought an ASCII Teletype machine for next to nothing that was dead in the water. Found the problem, fixed it, and used it for a couple years on BBS's before the internet was popular. I donated it for use as a printer to a civilian volunteer auxialliary of the Calif Department of Forestry. Got a great tax write off. Just remember, anything that once worked, can be made to work again. Just use caution when dealing with electricity.
