I don't. But even with the dismal sales, I've had lately it seems like more and more people are asking (and sometimes demanding) changes.

I just wonder if it works for them sometimes.

Last week I won a heavy glass and metal advertising sign for just over $300. The shipping cost was listed but the listing said insurance was not offered. I wrote to ask the seller what shipping method and if insurance was included. The answer was USPS and that he never insured anything because he had found there was no need to. Say What! I calculated the insurance and added it to my PayPal and said. Insure it! Does that counts as changing his terms?

I've been doing it on some things I buy just to see if I can get away with it.

Astonishingly, the answer seems to be yes.

eBay is a buyer's market.

I had some request media mail for a book so I said yes (offer it later in my WBN anyway).
Then they didn't bid but wrote later to offer me 1/2 the listed price????
Sorry - I don't think so!!!!!!

This buyer today complained about 100 percent sales tax. Which of course there wasn't. And the sales tax didn't apply to him/her (couldn't tell by the name) anyway. And then said he/she didn't want it shipped priority. And told me to send a new invoice for only the cost of shipping. Well too bad. It was a light weight item, but it was long and fragile and I cut down a priority box - just so it wouldn't go over 1 pound. For all the effort I charged a huge 15 cents in "handling".

If they had asked before the auction - I probably would have looked to see if I had a suitable non-priority box - but I just hate people trying to change the terms after the fact.

Rant over.

Yeah, what a hassle. I don't think I'll jerk any more sellers around, but it really was surprising in a science-experiment sort of way to see how quickly they bent over.

I routinely refuse all requests to deviate from the TOS, unless it's something really minor.

I have left 2 people Negative feedback for trying to change my terms after the sale. If someone wants something diferent ask before bidding. I recieved a check for an item today along with a big story about how they were unable to get a money order and could not get PayPal to work for them and they were leaving town for 3 weeks. I do not take checks and I state it 2 times in every auction. When they get back in to town they will have a Negative.

I don't ask for a change after the sale is completed on an auction that I have won. However, I do ask in advance of bidding if there is something that I want done such as ship together or combine shipping.
As a seller, I have at least one per week ask in advance and a few per month that think just because they bought the item they can now decide how things are going to be. example...Almost all of my stone items come with their own box as stated in the auction. I include the weight of the box in the shipping calculator when I add it to the auction. I had one buyer that won several auctions and wanted me to leave out these boxes so that she could save on shipping. I said that I would not do that because the box helps protect the stone item during shipping. The letter I got back was not very nice... accused me of trying to pad my shipping and make the Post office rich because she "knew that I was getting a big discount from them". She finally did pay and after she got the stuff, she could see why I use the boxes and left me good feedback. (I was sure that she was going to be a pain right to the end!)
Strange how some people think! Oh well, off of my soap box again.
