I have a stupid question that I've wondered for a while.

How does the percentage of your positive feedback change - how much do you have to receive before the percentage rises?

If my feedback says 99.1% positive feedback - how much more positive feedback do I need for it to raise to 99.2% and so on?

Inconsequential (sp?) but I was wondering anyhow.

Helga - if you have no negative feedback, your percentage will be 100%. Your percentage will not increase. Your percentage will decrease should you get another negative.

Edited to add: It will change with the amount of sales you have. Sell more! [ edited by earthmum on Sep 2, 2004 06:50 AM ]

It will change with the amount of sales you have.

Actually, no. It will change with the amount of unique feedback left for you, depending on what type of feedback it is. One negative feedback counts more than 100 positive unique ones. Does that seem right or fair? No.

Feedback percentage tends to decline over time if any negative feedback at all is received. Since you start at 100% and you can't do better than 100%, you can only go downhill or hold steady.

To me this is a BIG disincentive to pay any attention to feedback at all. Nothing you do will improve that percentage, so why bother?

THANK YOU HELGA for bringing this question up ... I have wondered that same thing for a long time!

AND THANK YOU WGM ... WOW, what a neat site you found!!! ... thanks for sharing it ...

but help me out here with my 17 yr. old's question .... he cannot figure out why this site's info would be right, if it does not ask you what your feedback number is.

Now how cool is that site. Wow - I only need 33 more feedbacks (positive of course!) to be bumped up.

I've had 3 people leave me positives today but my number has not changed yet. eBay must be slow on the feedback update today.

Aint - your 17-year old has a great question!

I am certainly no math wiz, but I would guess it works along the same basis as fractions - you know one-half is the same as two-fourths, three-sixths - since you do have to provide the number of negatives received, compared to the value of the feedback ratio you want - just a guess!

The fee tool is pretty cool too - when I first started, I was forever forgetting to include the s/h in the PayPal fee total on my spreadsheet LOL

Well dip me!

I just got another positive and my number isn't changing. I know, I know it doesn't matter but I'm getting close to a new "hundreds" number and star and each one is counting! My unique positive number is changing but the actual big bold number is not.

Hmmpf.

Please consider that the percentages are base on the hundreds. ie...one neg and one hundred positives would leave you with just over 99%. It will take a while to undo one neg. I have seen a couple of sellers out there that have negs and 100% but their feedback is in the mega thousands. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. When I go look at a sellers feedback, I am checking why they got the neg not what their % is.

Yeah I realize it doesnt' REALLY matter much but I was just wondering what it is that makes that number go up. Now I see based on that calculator thing that it's about 100 feedbacks.

I still dont know why my number isn't changing today!

If...I remember my math correctly (big stretch here) it would take 100 + 10 to move your percentage one tenth of a point. (from 99.1% to 99.2%) If I'm wrong, I am sure that this will be corrected by someone.

Hello,
This is going to sound a little mean however if you cannot do basic Hi School math you should NOT sell on ebay as you will loose your A--.

Hi School math (101A) says Little number divided by the big number and move decimal point two over and add % sign.

Example 100 positives #s, 50 negative #s = 50 divide by 100 <.> move and add <%> = 50%

It all depends on the total number of feedbacks you have. If you have a large number of feedbacks each neg or positive will move you forward or backward a smaller percentage than if you have a smaller number of total feedbacks. It's all relative.

To put this in perspective:

I have 6,451 positive feedbacks- 5 negatives..my FB % is 99.9...to get to 100% again I have to have 9995 postives...just 3543 to go!! 100 postives won't budge that % a bit!! It takes 2000 positives to wipe out one lousy negative!! Teach is right...it sucks!!

However, unlike Virginity, you can get your 100 back...by and by

Who really cares?? If you have a 98+ Why worry about it? I hyave had at least a 98% feedback for the past 4 years. Has not affected my sales one bit. There are always going to be SOB's that will neg you regardless of what you do. I try to be honest with my auctions & will not lie about qn object I an selloing.
