deer head, moose head, etc.

If they have a specific name, I've never heard it. "Look, they have a moose-head on the wall!"

The only thinkg similar I can think of with an actual name is a jackelope (The rabbit with big antlers).

No wonder I was drawing a blank! Was it customary to mount on the OUTSIDE of a building?

Neglus

That looks like an elk or large deer. It is definately not a moose. There horns are different, not really horns.

Moose

Elk

It's simply a Mount.

Can have them done any way you like.
Depends on what and how much you take in to have mounted.

Oh dear - I think "Mount" sounds a little nasty for my postcard buying audience LOL guess I will call it " Hunter with deer head trophy"

Hi all,

Judging from completed sales on eBay (not postcards - the real deer head thing) I think these are the keywords you might want to consider: Deer Mount Antlers Taxidermy

Also, I wonder if the rifles are significant?

"POSTCARD - Hunter mounts moose with rifle in hand"

That'll get hits. It sounds almos as much fun as the Holy Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

I think it is a deer. Look at the difference in the antlers and the neck, chest area.

I just went back and reread you question. Down here they are just called mounted deer heads or mounted deer racks. Almost everyone in Louisiana has a dead animal on their wall. It's sort of like a matter of pride. Go figure.

FGS, Its an ELK's head, not a deer. Anyone who has done any hunting could tell you the difference.

Your right sanmar it is an elk. Notice the long sleek look of the antlers. Deer have shorter fatter ones. Moose have large flat ones.
