That's pretty funny. Especially the google search for the "water heater leaking". Hope your floor isn't wet.

re: water heater leaking

YOU HAVE NO IDEA!! Husband is on 3rd week of biz trip to Philippines and Australia..kids are away at school. I just got home from 10 day visit with mom & have lots of ebay stuff to do etc. My youngest daughter called and is bringing an out of state student home for Thanksgiving to stay in MY EBAY ROOM ( GASP!!)

I woke up bright and early this am to do my shipping and hopped in the shower BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! SO I went down to the basement to find the furnace room AND adjacent family room flooded! Soooooooo...had to do a search to figure out if that meant I needed a new water heater or if I should call a plumber ( I have no clue about that stuff!)..I decided I needed a new one.

To make matters worse, the water turn-off on the water heater wasn't working so the blankety blank thing continued to flood all day long!! I can't get the new WH installed until Monday and now I had to turn off all the water in the house!

I am so depressed!!!!!!!! WHAT A MESS!!!!!

Neglus,
I empathize with you! Are you sure it is the water heater leaking & not the pipes? Our pipes broke a month ago & they were right behind the water heater. We were told that is a common place for them to break. Anyway, we had the "water extraction" experts out. You may want to call them if you have any water in the walls or floor. They will cut out holes in the dry wall & floor & extract the water (prevent mold). Anyway it is a big project. BTW - their charge does not include the plumber or new water heater. We are going to get new copper pipes after the holidays.
Good Luck.

Neglus,
We had a flood in our house about a year and a half ago due to a broken valve in one of the bathrooms. Get those water extraction people in right away, or you could be facing major problems and notify your insurance company. The name of the game at this point is to prevent further damage, namely mold. In our case, they had to run 4 large fans and a dehumidifier for a week to dry everything out. Those fans will add quite a bit to your electric bill. For us it was $150.00, but the insurance company reimbursed us. Be sure to keep the broken parts, or whatever caused the leak. Your insurance company will want it. If it turns out to be a faulty part, they will go after the manufacturer for reimbursement. If they recover anything, they will refund the deductable you paid.

Thanks for the sympathy! With a floor drain in the same room you'd think that the water would drain that way but NOOOOOOOOOO it went the other direction!!

I am fairly certain it was the water heater = I could see the water coming out the bottom and it more or less sits in the middle of my furnace room with only the in and out pipes and the leak was from the bottom.

The water wasn't deep enough to go up the walls and the floor underneath is just concrete. I am going to pull up the carpet and toss the pad and decide about replacing the carpet (wouldnt break my heart because it is 16+ years old as it is). I think I need to sell some of those diamond rings appearing in my store to pay for a remodel!! LOL...or that 350,000,000 whatever it was!!
