not a chance. They can become a small niche player, but it will take much bigger bucks to take on ebay. If google went into the auction business, they could make a pretty big dent. Obviously they could look at what yahoo did, and not do that!

At present, Yahoo is the only company with a chance to take on Ebay. They have the infrastructure, experience and resources to conduct a major online auction business. My guess is they are waiting for a major disaster at Ebay to occur so they can strike at a vulnerable time. The "item not received" scheme could very well be the nudge it takes to get a large number of powersellers to defect. Or, it could come in the form of a disaster at Paypal. Ebay is exposing itself on many fronts. Sooner or later, they will expose their Achille's heel.

Sorry sucker the BUYER wins YOU seller sucker, YOU lose.....their words to ME,,,To protect yourself from FUTURE misdescribed items, Give clear pictures and detailed information of the product. hahahahaha, I have sold well over 10,000 of these WIDGETS, SAME Pictures,,Same story for 4 years.....the catch all phrase is an open gate to FRAUD! and PP will NOT do anything...once the buyer mention that, consider your MONEY AND your Product GONE! I tried Overstock - had about 12 items on there for a week and not even a nibble. Even had a gorgeous leather jacket on there. Put the jacket on eBay a week later and it was gone as fast as I got it on the auction. Different type of buyers on Overstock than on eBay.
Yahoo.....my auction site got hacked on Yahoo - never could do anything about it either. I emailed, turned in to credit bureau, contacted my sheriff's dept, nothing! The guy changed my password and security message and the whole nine yards. Yahoo wouldn't let me in. One thing about Yahoo - you can't get ahold of them by phone - EVER! I will pay the higher fees than ever go back to Yahoo.
People just feel more secure in buying on eBay for some reason. That's about all I can figure out.

Hi all,
I think Overstock is/was just another of the flash-in-the-pan eBay wannabe's. Kinda like that other one, Gold's, I think, that was around a few years ago and suddenly vanished, pulled the plug and disappeared.
If OS hadn't had that baseball from whoever it was that hit the home run I don't think anyone would have taken notice.
The only thing I did was register to prevent someone else using my name. Never listed a single thing or even thoroughly looked at the site.

Sellers have established feedback on eBay. That makes all the difference as far as bidders are concerned.
I hope Overstock can get established and take a percentage of the auction market. When was the last time you saw Yahoo or Amazon promote their auctions?
I like the simple design of Overstock, and listing items there seems somewhat favorable to eBay's robust 4 step process.

simply put, Overstock had a chance to do it about 6 weeks ago and blew it. There site just had way too many glitches and short-comings that it simply didn't allow bidders to find sellers items and didn't allow sellers the protection of a reliable site. It had all the promise to take on ebay because of name recognition, but they just didn't think things through very well.
Now with the free listing day coming on Wednesday, I suspect there will be a big jump in listings there, but my guess it simply won't matter.
It is a shame because they were the only ones on the horizon that had a fighting chance against the monopoly.

eBay is the IBM, the Microsoft, the US Steel, the Standard Oil of their industry. Totally dominant as these others were at their height, make their own rules, their way or the highway. They will dominate for decades. Even if they stumble, no one will be in a position to take them on.

Overstock is not Ebay ,it is not for high ticket items and exotic items.
But if you have something to sell and set the make me mine price not too high from starting bid, they move pretty fast.
It is not THE GHOST OF GOLD AUCTION,it has a customer base from their regular stuff.
Who is providing the picture hosting, take a look,it is much better than Ebay's??
