Not such a great shot, but I wanted all my pals to see why we bought this house, on this particular rise. The big rock is "Lily Rock." Indians worshipped it. 1,000 feet, and climbers are getting stranded or worse every summer. Happy Thanksgiving, one and all!

Here's the same scene, shot on the lower than mine, on my husband's camera. Much nicer, huh? I think I had my settings screwed up.

Miscellany: We are in Idyllwild CA, in the mountains above Palm Springs. 2000 - 3000 permanent residents, many more in our resort town in the warmer months. Wonnnnderful, sweet little town to live in.
Edited to add: When we saw this view, we bought the house and made it work for us. A year of remodeling and construction, and worth every penny!

Oh! Thanks. I thought that it might be the Eastern Sierras up in the Owens Valley. My sister lives in Big Pine, so it does look like the mountains in that area. It is all beautiful. Do you have great hiking trails up there?

Yes, we have hiking trails! About 75 miles of them accessible from the edge of town. We are also part of the Pacific Coast Trail, and in the warmer weather we have these incredibly tanned and fit young (and older) people from all over the world coming through town and wishing they could stay right here. Our p.o. counter has a journal people can write in, leaving messages for friends coming after them. It's all very sweet, and some of the residents on the edge of town leave water jugs out for the hikers as they stumble down our roads, with signs welcoming them.

A REALLY beautiful shot. Sorry, but not for me, looks too daxx cold for these old bones. I'll stay on the Central Coast with our mild winters & relatively cool summers.
