So here's what I'm thinkin'...I mailed out about 6 pairs of shoes today at a rate of 4.75 shipping per box. Do I use these new boxes or do I save people shipping? Should I use these boxes for heavy things that I know will be more than 4.75? Thoughts anyone?

I just put out an solid brass item that would normally cost over $9 to ship and I used the new $7.70 flat rate for it. For items that will ship for less, I will continue the shipping calculator. However, for combined items I will use the flat rate, if they will fit. I think I will gain customers by saving them $$ during this type of economy.

Not what you asked, directly but just what I will do.

I can just see it now, someone will go to my store and buy 30 audio books and want them shipped for the $7.70 instead of Media Mail. I make part of my money on the shipping.

Did all of the shoes go to the same address? If they did, I would check with UPS or FedEx Ground. I ship anything over 4 lbs by FedEx a lot cheaper than Priority Mail. The prepaid boxes aren't big enough to pack china in. I also double box a lot of heavier china sucj as dinner plates. Sure insurance will pay for breakage, but it won't replace the irreplaceable.

I do not make money off the shipping. I charge actual shipping cost. I will not buy from a seller that charges a profit off the shipping. It is better for the customer to save them money,.

How would you make money on shipping?
I ship priority and it's just straight across.

What is it with people that don't get paid for the time it takes to wrap & pack , use your car to go to UPS, FedEx or the PO? I charge a flat rate depending on the size & weight of the item/ I don't make a lot but with gas at $2.29 a gallon here, I'm am not going to give my time & expense away. Do you know any retail company that doesn/'t state "shipping & HANDLING are $$XX"?

...It is better for the customer to save them money (insert rolling eye smiley here)

And just how are buyers going to save sellers money?

As most here, I state my s/h in my listings. Don't like it? Don't bid, hit the "back" button and continue surfing.

Sanmar, I agree with you. This mentality just amazes me.

I charge shipping and handling and do not MAKE money.

You don't charge handling and LOSE money.

Losing money is NOT a good business plan.

harder,
I haven't seen it there yet. It took PP a couple of months to get the on line insurance after USPS put it out so I expect the same. Hoping, but... Probably not.

cherishedclutter,
I've done that more than once on things that have arrived broken. The things we do for customers. Gotta love 'em.
