I have a beautiful, yellow, ringed mixing bowl, only marks on bottom are USA and 18.

I seem to remember that Shawnee sometimes just marked their pottery USA. True?

It's true that Shawnee used USA on some of their items, but so did other pottery co's.

It sounds like Bauer ringware to me. I used to collect the mixing bowls before I started selling postcards - now no time for pottery

Lots of pottery companies mark the bottom USA. Please post the picture, so we can see it. Ringware does sound like Bauer & they often have numbers on the bottom.

Bauer can be marked just about with anything, or not marked at all. Often the stilt marks are very sloppy, and that's a good way to identify it. I believe Shawnee was pretty good about marking all their stuff, and there's not a lot of unmarked pottery that made it out the door.

Thanks for all the thoughts here! I'll post a picture of the bowl tomorrow. I will say, though, that I have lots of old family Bauer pottery, ringware, and I've sold some other Bauer pottery, too. This is a yellow, but not the Chinese Yellow of the ringware; it's a softer, slightly browner yellow. The rings aren't the wide rings of ringware but smaller rings--9 rings on the side of the bowl, which is almost 4" high.

There used to be a great Bauer pottery site for discussions, but a year or more ago it seemed to go pfffft. That's where I had gone before for some Bauer answers.

I may attempt to identify it by the font of the number 18 on the bottom. It is a mystery! Well, stay tuned. It's late, and I'm turning in.

Here's the bowl I've been talking about:

And the bottom - 18 + a very faint USA. Any further thoughts on maker?

Looks to me like a Bauer "Beehive" bowl.

Here's a picture of one I used to have:

Pay close attention to the glaze around the stilt marks on the bottom. Bauer was pretty sloppy during this part of the process.

I vote Bauer - Ring or ringware I think.
I think I had the same bowl a few years ago

Definitely Bauer. Check out this auction:

The concensus seems to be toward Bauer here. I"m still not positive but will list it with some caveats.

Local: The bowl you gave the link to is more tapered toward the bottom and there's a sort of lip at the top which I don't see on mine.

This shouldn't be so hard! I've bought and sold tons of it and have a dining room at our cabin ringed with ringware plates near the ceiling, lots of bowls in the kitchen, etc. For some reason this one just isn't setting well with me. But. . . I'll give it a try!

I appreciate everybody's input here. Thanks so much!
