Frankly, I am amazed. I listed a very early Miriam Haskell necklace in need of conservation work. I started it at $5.99 this morning and it's already $26. Now, personally I wouldn't pay more than $5.99 for it. Some of the pearls are pealing and most of the rhinestones (or paste) have gone dark. Can anyone please explain this to me? I'm perplexed by it. Other pieces by other designers I have are near mint and haven't gotten a bid yet. Since I know very little about vintage jewelry, perhaps someone hear can clear this up for me. Now, it's not that I'm complaining mind you. $26 almost covers what I paid for the entire lot of vintage jewelry so I'm pretty happy about it. I'm just friggin' confused.
Here's a pic so you can see what I'm talking about:

Pretty durn obvious, Cheryl, & Ralphie & I are shocked(Nay -- dare we say: mortified?) that you missed the Virgin Mary practically jumping out of that third pearl on the left!

Okay, Cheryl -- I have to compliment you on your photograph (again!).
Tell me how you did it, pretty please...
What color background and what software are you using to drop it out? I've got PhotoShop and can't for the life of me figure out how you make these things look so darn good.
You can attribute some of the price to the fact that you have an awesome photo of it -- in my opinion, of course.

I use two programs: MS PhotoDraw and PhotoImpact. PhotoDraw has been discontinued, but you can still find it from time to time on eBay. That's the program I use the most. I photograph on white paper and then cut that out using PhotoDraw. If you have a silver object, it's best to use a dark color background. Construction paper works great because it's it's not shiny. PhotoImpact is a super program. You can download a trial here:
It does some amazing things. I also spend a lot of time on my photographs as well. You can tell when I'm tired because the photos will look very different.

The January 12th issue of Antique Trader has a front page article on Miriam Haskell jewelry. There are photos of several pieces valued up to $1600.00. This could be why folks are jumping all over your auction
