You've asked for it, pleaded, begged. Heck, some of you have even threatened! (you know who you are) ;o)

Well, once again, we've listened and delivered.

After reading this post, please try performing a search for a product from the basic search box in the left hand column, i.e. "Star Wars". (NOTE: This does not yet work on the "Advanced Search", but it will very soon.)

You'll notice a big change. Our search enginge now returns "and" results, from the title and subtitle, without the extra ("or" possible matches.

We think this is a big step in providing buyers a simple way of finding what they're looking for and sticking around to search for more.

Please thank Sam for listening to us and taking your feedback seriously. I'll post another update when this improvement has extended to the Advanced Search.

Best wishes,

Byron from Overstock.

I gave the search function a try myself and sure enough, it is really fixed. I put in a keyword and only items with that keyword in the title show up. No Grandma's used underware. Grandpa's false teeth. No junk like bidville. We suggested the change and overstock listened. Hear that EBAY, Overstock listens to it's users.

Let me get this straight. They had a search feature that was BROKEN, and when they finally got around to fixing it you jump up and down cause they listened to you?

If someone tells me that something of mine is broken, I'll fix it. That doesn't mean I give a rat's rearend about the person who told me about the problem.

Stone, I was one of the bigest complainers about their search. I noticed they had "fixed" it last month. But IMHO, it is too little too late.

All the advertising hipe got people to go look. They saw a screwed up site and won't be back. I have visited occationally so see how it was going and it is starting to look like bidville and the Shaighi flea market. Catergories are full of Chinese rip off auctions.

I tried their last free listind day and did not even have very many lookers, muchless bidders.

Ran the samm stuff on Ebay at the same time ,just for kicks. All items sold on Ebay for good $$ and had hundreds of hits plus multiple bidders.

Overstock has blown it as far as I'm concerned, but you hang in there and let us know when they really do start a viable business.

Itray,
I was hoping someone like you would still be listing there. I haven't listed since the last FLD either. I guess I had better success than you did during the last FLD. I have been going back there to leave feedback and track my sales and since I am there, I check out what improvements have been made. I still think they have a shot a competing with Ebay, but it frankly is a long shot. Maybe Steve is still listing there and can let us know when sales improve.

Stone, I have been giving the current events considerable consideration.

What would be a productive way for the people who want to complain and boycott and such to have a truly good affect on the on-line auction bizness?

I think the petition has a lot of potential if it is used in a way not intended. Instead of giving it to Ebay, give it to Overstock. Since they already have the infrastructure in place, and have expressed a desire to build an auction business, perhaps they might be ready to take the complaints of the Ebayers and create a viable, affordable auction site.

Overstock had good intentions, they just jumped the gun and released their product before they had the bugs worked out. Due to that one fact, they will need to go back to step one and begin again with a new site name and the same heavy expensive advertising that they used the first time.

I have sold many items on Overstock auction, their search engine may be screwed up,but if you list in categories where there are few listings, you dont really need to rely on search engine to drive you traffic.
So far Overstock works well for me,in the future,i dont know.
