Kansas? Not on their license plate I don't think, but here is a recent article about Kansas changing their state slogan and previously having had Linger Longer.

New state slogan unveiled

TOPEKA - Wide open spaces. Big skies. Lots of grass.

State tourism officials are hoping those images will draw tourists and businesses to Kansas. The state on Tuesday unveiled its latest marketing slogan - "KANSAS. As big as you think."

Those six words will find themselves lodged in marketing materials aimed at tourists and business consultants across the country. It is part of the state's effort to revamp its image, which many say lacks pizzazz.

"Our wide open spaces do create big thinking," said Howard Fricke, secretary of the Kansas Department of Commerce, in a news release.

"(President Dwight D.) Eisenhower, Amelia Earhart and many other determined and innovative Kansans reflect how being a Kansan helped shape their spirit to do the most amazing things. This rugged, freethinking attitude is still true today."

The Kansas Brand Image Task Force, intending to e-mail media outlets about news conferences to be conducted Friday to announce the image campaign, accidentally released the slogan itself. The task force quickly urged newspapers and radio stations to forego reporting on the theme until Friday so the slogan would make a bigger statewide splash at news conferences in Topeka, Hays, Salina, Yates Center, Wichita, Kansas City and Dodge City.

The 21-member image task force, led by the Commerce Department, was comprised of community, business and tourism leaders across the state.

It was created by the Legislature in 2004 after state officials fielded complaints from business leaders that Kansas didn't necessarily have a lousy image, just a non-existent one.

Leaders complained that little came to mind when outsiders thought about Kansas.

Past image campaigns and slogans - like "Land of Ah's," "Simply Wonderful" and "Linger Longer" - didn't have the broad appeal of the new image, officials say.

Television, radio and print ads featuring Eisenhower and Earhart will portray that image when they begin airing statewide Sunday.

So far, the project has cost the state $700,000, a figure that could grow as the marketing campaign continues.

The new slogan has gotten at least one good outside reaction.

"I think it's nice," said Mary Ethel Emanuel, spokeswoman for the Nebraska Division of Travel and Tourism.

Nebraska more than a year ago went through a similar process in coming up with its slogan, "Nebraska, possibilities ... endless." That slogan was quite a bit less expensive at a cost of $50,000.

The only thing I could find is that it is a motto for the Church of LDS for socialization after services..maybe it's a motto in Utah??

I was going to say it sounds more like a tourism slogan than a state motto.

I just found this.

Thank you all so much. I did Google the phrase but didn't find it on the first 10 pages so gave up... and thought of how diverse and smart this group is and voila!<p> For 10 years while living in Denver, I drove to Kansas City every month for a show. It is Kansas I just should have known that!Talk about brain farts! Kansas really is a wonderful space,I came to think of it as my "quiet" space. I actually drove back roads to KC so I could slow down from city life and teenagers... it was my "intake" time. All parents, past or present,of teenagers know that is very important to have that time.Nice thoughts for a moment... Wheat fields in June... Sunflower fields in late Aug..... Again I thank you.
