I have closed mine and probably won't reopen it for another month. I need diffent merchandise than what I had so I need to order a bunch of new stuff. I don't think it is worth having a store for under 300 items with the price increase. Most of my items will do the best from June-December.

I had 2, one fully developed and doing well, the other opened but under development with little to no inventory. I closed down that one, and kept the functioning one. I wanted to keep the stores separate, but the fee increase doesn't make it seem worthwhile.
I am actually seriously considering opening a yahoo store for $40 per month. I figure a lot of the traffic I get from my store is driven by me, so I may try both yahoo and ebay to see how it goes. Yahoo has a steeper monthly fee, but only a 1.5% transaction fee. That is a huge difference. Anyone else have experience with yahoo stores?

About six weeks ago I started a store for the first time and was SO excited. It sounded too good to be true. Yesterday I closed it. Only a few items sold the first month, but that was to be expected. Then the fees went up...now its no longer worth it. I imagine that people selling many of the same items find it profitable, but my "inventory" is collectables and odd items. I would have liked to try it for a while longer, but I just couldnt add to my expenses anymore. I feel really disappointed. Maybe another time or another place.

Mine's only been open a little over a month, but yes I'm keeping it. I really want to work on adding more items. I'm already seeing a small trend of what kind of items my auction winners will buy from the store.
Right now, I'm not doing much of anything - my laptop is in the shop and I'm connected to the internet with my old web tv. Everything is so much slower and cumbersome.

I'm closing it at the end of the month. I sold so much on 10 cent listing day that I really depleted my inventory.
I'm going to try and create my own store/website. The web hosting will only cost $15.00 a month thru my Costco Executive membership.
Time to get off my butt and not be so dependent upon Ebay.
I'm still going to do auctions however.

Geeeez!
Feel like Ralphie & I are swimming upstream, but, since OCT, our STORE has been hell-bent for...
Everytime we sell out of the STORE, we do a , hugging & generally raising hell...
Just had a STORE item close 1 hour ago for $110 -- that sweet insertin fee twas a whopping 5cents! compared to...
Even with the proposed increases, the STORE is still a BARGAIN, as long as ya funnel the buyers there!
THAT'S THE WHOLE THING...

I'll pipe in too - I am keeping my store as well. I have steady sales from the store - between 25% and 30% of my total monthly sales. I don't think my own website could possibly generate the traffic that my ebay store does. I also think it's still a bargain. I suppose I should be exploring other venues but I just don't have the time to fiddle around - I could be listing on ebay (and selling) with the fiddlin' around time. If they change store listing fees I'll have to rethink the whole thing - but for the time being, I am staying open.

I am keeping my store. I sell enough out of it a month to pay for it and then a little. Not a lot but a little. I like that I can put listings of my stuff (that I make) and have hundreds of different kinds for in the store for people to find through my other auctions. The $6 a month raise doesn't really hurt me much ~ I have to sell one more item a month than I was before to pay for it.
I really am not as up in arms about this as many other people are. I don't know why.

I can handle the increases this time around - I think I will be paying up to $75/month more, but I can handle that. I am more concerned about the NEXT increase. They won't increase the FVF, it will be the listing fee. With about 4000 items listed, that will hurt. I am not doing anything else at the moment, but starting to plan to migrate some to most of my inventory elsewhere, I still have thousands of items to list so doing both ebay and yahoo stores might make sense.

Helga, where have you been? I was thinking of asking where you and Bizzy got off to.
I am keeping my store open. Like Tom, Neglus and Helga, it is well worth the cost to me. The fees were beginning to hurt before I opened the store. I opened it in October and get about 40% of my sales from it.
As soon as I get back on my feet again, I will start looking for a shopping cart to open a store on my website again, just in case. But if I'm still making a profit with my eBay store, I will keep it open also.
Be kind. Everyone is fighting their own secret battles.

I am keeping my store. I have sales just about every day so it is doing good. I can absorb the extra cost and FVF.
I think personally even with the increases it is cheaper than a website in which you not only have to pay monthly fees to the host, but if they don't supply a shopping cart you need to add that onto your bill and not to mention the merchant account and fees for promoting your store through the search engines. Tried my own websites but gave up. Too much maintenance and cost.

I'm definitely keeping my store. I sold 1/3 of my December sales out of there, but that was to a few big customers. I love the store and find that it really works for me. I concentrate a lot on auctions and find that it drives lots of sales from my store. I LOVE waking up in the morning and seeing that I've sold a few items.
I have close to 500 items up there, though. It's definitely worth it for me. I'm going to be taking some work next month and it'll be taking up a lot of my time and you can be sure I'm going to fill the store and send out customer emails and have a sale and try to pull in some $$$.

The key to making money with the store is to have a lot of items, that is why I closed mine for a month I don't have near enough plus I needed the mechandise for my Peddlers Mall store as I got wiped out at Christmas.

I was planning on a large eBay store in March but will now keep it much smaller and go with primarily higher priced items. I will push my Vendio store more than ever. It continues to do fine. Just got a $ 96 order today to fill. My situation is probably different than most of you as my items are less than $10. I concentrate on building a repeat customer base that orders through my Vendio store. Can't beat the price there. Its sad but eBay just continues to bleed everyone. I wish that Yahoo would take a shot at them. I am hopeful they are waiting for a mistep and then are going to underprice ebay and capture their customers. We need legitimate competition to help control these greedy price increases.

Wishful thinking, but they are already underpriced. The problem is that the BUYERS are at ebay, and not yahoo or bidville or fill in the blank. I would love to be able to have 2 or even 3 different auction companies to use. I remember I used to do this back in 1996 and 1997, when ebay was one player in a small but developing field. It would take some pretty big bucks to take on ebay, Yahoo has them but I think they are pretty happy doing what they are doing. I think Google would be a good company to take them on since they specialize in searching and finding things through their search engine. Overstock seemed like it had a possibility, but they fizzled out pretty quickly.

Is it advisable to use Vendio to list Ebay Store items or just list them in the Ebay store using Ebay?

ebayvet,
Yes unfortunately eBay is dominent and it will take a MAJOR mistep for someone to capture a large portion of eBays market. There are a lot of examples in corporate america where the big have fallen. I picked Yahoo since they are already there but Google would be another possiblity. eBay just simply buys anyone who threatens them (paypal etc) and then uses there monopolistic clout to capture more market and ultimately continue to raise prices. Yahoo and Google could do it. I remain hopeful.
