Our daughter e-mailed this today:
"My friend just received a coin at
work tonight and was wondering if it was worth anything. Do you know anyone
from Vendio or ebay who collects coins? If so, could you post a message to
them regarding this:
"It's an 1861 half dollar, and says "Confederate States Of America" on it.
It has a woman on the front with a shield that says Liberty, and a flag in
the other hand. 13 flowers/stars around the rim. It has a shield on the
other side. The coin's about the size of a silver dollar."
I told her, to start with, that it all depends on whether it's real or not--and whether it's a replica instead of an original. Also, that condition is everything. Can you all add anything, having not even seen this yet?

I don't believe the Confederate States minted coins just paper money. Could be wrong but I've studied quite a bit about the Civil War.
Doing a limited google search seems to confirm that but interesting to see if anyone else has information.

if authenicated as a restrike; hope some kid didn't spend coinage from his father's collection...been known to happen many a time

Thanks, people. I've found original coins and restrikes on Ebay now. I've suggested she take the coin to a coin dealer for his take on it. It most probably is a repro.
I too hope some kid didn't rob his dad's coin collection. Yikes.

The original dies were used to make a restrike. They are fairly rare. Seems like a nice find to me no matter what...
