I would imagine someone would have to tear the place down just from all the mold growing all over the walls. Looks like a great vacation spot - NOT!

I don't think so, they are pretty up front about the condition. What gets me is $3500 tax, what is the property tax rate in Pennsylvania? Maybe I shouldn't complain here in Oregon.

We looked at an abandoned building in Philly, once. Selling price- fifty grand. Back taxes, which had to be paid by the buyer- one hundred fifty grand.
cost of restoration- who the hell knows? we decided to pass.

The property taxes are based on where in PA it is...the Poconos.

I have more land, a nicer home (at least in nicer condition) and a very large studio (the main bay could hold a semi) and my taxes are no where near that. But my county is economically depressed and the Poconos is a resort area.

All I can say about the place is it is NASTY and the people who lived there must have been NASTY too.....Yuck!

The pictures are showing black mold. This should be a condemned house. The reason why you see so many personal items in the photos is because the previous family was probably told they had to evacuate and could not take anything with a porous surface. I doubt the mold was as obvious while the family was in the house. When you close up a house that has mold contamination and shut off the AC or heating, the mold grows at a phenomenal rate.

No one should be allowed into this property unless they are wearing a haz-mat suit!

Black Mold is becoming a major epidemic and is causing serious illnesses. You will be seeing more news stories about it, if you haven't noticed already.

It is extremely tricky to sell a property that has known black mold. You are opening yourself to a lawsuit, even if you have the buyer sign a disclaimer stating that they know the dangers of mold.

Insurance companies are now condemning such houses and the buildings have to be completely gutted. From the looks of the pictures in the basement, this building will have to be destroyed.

I know because I developed a severe immune system disease due to exposure to black mold. At the time I did not know about the danger of living in a molded house. My house became contaminated after water damage from Hurricane Opal.

I have spent the last 9 years dealing with exhaustion, respiratory problems, muscular pain and depression all caused from the mold exposure.

I finally live in a mold free house, but it has taken several years for me to finally start feeling healthy again and at my age, 45, I may never feel as good as I used to. I used to be an extremely active person and then suddenly, I was almost an invalid and the doctors could not tell me why. At the time, it was not know how serious detrimental this mold was. Luckily, more people are becoming educated about the potential hazards of living in water damaged buildings.

A lady in my town rented a house to a family. The house was contaminated with mold. As a result, one of their children became ill and died. There was a hell of a lawsuit that ensued and a settlement was reached that cost the owner of the house a bundle. She finally had the house leveled and there's nothing but a vacant lot where it once was. Ltray is correct in her original post. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. The person attempting to sell that house should have his real estate license revoked.

twig-the wife and I were up in Corning about 3 OR 4 years ago on Memorial Day weekend.I live just south of Pougkeepsie. We took rt 84 to rt 17 in Middletown all the way to Painted Post were we stayed at the Holiday Inn there. It took us about 4 hours to get there.I remember there was a womans golf tournament going on at the time in Corning. We went to Senneca Lake and went on a boat ride where we ate dinner. We went to a state park there, but right now I cant think of the name of the damn place.Of course we went to the Corning Glass works, but to me it wasnt any big deal.We also went to a winnery on the left side of the lake, which looked fairly new.It was on a hill and you could look down and see the lake.On the way home we deceided to take rt 17 to Binghamton and south on rt 81 to Scranton,Pa and take 84 from there. We made it home in 3hrs and 15 minutes. It was alot quicker that way being the speed limit in N.Y.is 55 and in Pa its 65.

What is a matter! No Guts?
Wife and I bought a Union hall in Oregon
in 1996 with a credit card!!(down)
1999 we moved from Oregon to Florida with a 10,000 down payment on the local house. Where do you think the money came from?

There is tons of money in deals like this but not for the faint hearted.

YUCK!!!

I think I'm sick just looking at that. What a shame the house looks cool from the outside.

I can't believe someone is trying to sell a house as bad as this one.

Dacreson, I have managed to be financially independant since 1993 by investing in real estate. I know when to buy and when to walk away.

This one, I would not even walk into.

Whoever buys this house will have to pay cash for it. No lender would put up a dime, since it can't be insured. That place is one of the few places I can think of where a direct hit by a tornado would be considered a community improvement.

Bring on the tornado!

A property with such a low price tag as this draws two sets of buyers~those who can't afford anything else and those who see a 'good' rental property. In either case, neither party will want to (or perhaps be able to) put in the time or money to do what needs to be done~bulldozing and starting from the ground up.

A coat of paint and a dumpster might be all this sty will get out of either set :0(
