I recently purchased a laptop, which the monitor seems to be brighter than my pc flatscreen. i've done all of my photo editing on the pc all along, and did some with the laptop and was disappointed, but then i thought... what if it is actually the pc. So, i thought I would ask the experts which image shows more detail and is overall better? I'm not worried about focus as much as brightness and tone.

I'd be more concerned about picture accuracy. Picture 2 is probably a little better than picture 1 on my new Dell supersharp LCD monitor, but does it convey the color of the wood? I wouldn't think so.

The second picture is definitely clearer, but I think that perhaps the first picture is showing the truer color of the item.

Glassgrl -- We were both responding at the same time and thought the same thing.

2nd picture ... much clearer ... shows the nice grain in the wood.

from my pc the wood in photo B is more accurate to the true color. The true color of the wood has more of a reddish tone rather than walnut which tends to be darker browns/gray than red.

They're both out of focus, so, which ever one most closely matches the color of the piece is the one you should use. Personally, I'd reshoot.

If B is the more accurate, that is the one to choose. The picture will look fine in a listing. (Zoomed out with Firefox to see how it would look.) The first one definitely looks more walnut.

Shag -- What type of software are you using to enhance your pictures? They both look very yellow, and you can enhance the color with most software. In other words, if it is supposed to be more red, you can enhance the picture to make it look more red. There are many good programs out there, but I use the free program that comes with adobe. I learned to use it and can do practically anything with my images. Of course, you want to keep it as true to the actual item as possible.

you see?!!... it IS each and every person's own monitor they're looking at ... I do not see 'yellowing' .. and I do not see 'out of focus' at all ....
I think it boils down to whatever monitor and settings any given 'viewer' is seeing.

I was able to sharpen the focus a little bit. A new photo would probably be better, as Profe suggested.

Why, thank you, Helen! When he said it was more red, I added red to the image.

bizzycrocheting, I have to do that all the time to my pictures. Fluorite tends to pick up any color that is reflected on it. Its horrible to have a nice clear piece that turns ugly yellow because of where the sun was reflecting at the time.

Kevin -- Exactly! There is ALWAYS touch-up work that needs to be done. Lucy taught me that! Thanks bunches, Lucy! I had a baby afghan up for auction, but the color wasn't showing up. Lucy touched up the color for me, and that was when I learned how on my own.

The easiest method is to do what some of the powersellers do when they are too busy to mess with photos. Do a search of all identical items listed, find the best picture, and steal it.
