Heads up!! There's a tornado watch in your back yard as of this post. We have a severe thunderstorm warning in Tulare county that could turn into a tornado at any time. Time to break out the two buck chuck.

Jeeze, Sparkz, freak me out, will ya!

Okay, I took a great big chance and looked out my back door. What did I see? Some light floating cloud cover with stars peeking through. No wind.

Are you getting rain now?

Thanks for the post. I think I'll open up another bottle in case the lights go out. Wouldn't want to be stumbling around in the dark looking for the corkscrew!

Lucy...Probably the reason for the watch which is over the water is because of what happened in Orange County today. Waterspouts that turned to tornados when they came ashore. San Onofre was one of the places mentioned in the tornado warnings this afternoon. Bet Trader Joes is sold out of Chuck in that area No rain here yet, but the severe thunderstorm headed north towards us from Bakersfield turned west towards the coast. Hit the radar image at the bottom of the page and you should be able to see it.

Epower...A marine warning means it's a bad time to schedule a deep sea fishing trip unless you're a helluva good swimmer

Try to keep those danged tornadoes up your way, okay? We still have snow, sleet, rain, some hail, then snow again. Sort of a continuous loop.

Roadsmith...Where else but California can you find blizzards, tornados, severe thunderstorms, and floods all at the same time within 50 miles of each other? At least, we have 2 days of clear skys ahead this weekend and Arizona can deal with this storm. Can't wait to see what the next one on Monday will be like

No change here - still dry and *almost* clear.

I guess the storm decided it likes Jack better than Sparkz and me.

Ummmm...Lucy, I mentioned in my first post that the severe thunderstorm that was heading towards me had turned west and headed toward the coast. I didn't mention which town it was headed for. Look out your back door

Yikes, Sparkz. ANOTHER storm? Monday? When will it ever end?????

They're saying this is the 4th wettest year since 1877. Only the 4th? I cannot imagine what the 1st must have been like--but it was probably long ago when we didn't have people building houses on the sides of mountains--and we didn't have so much paved road causing runoff.

I've always thought that most of our civilization problems are caused by too many people.

That's right Roadsmith. People and concrete are the cause of all the problems in Southern California due to these storms. We have actually had it good here in the valley. The storms have brought much needed water after a 7 year drought to the richest agricultural area in the nation. There have been no major problems, other than high stream advisories. Even the severe thunderstorms yesterday and today were extremely welcome to many farmers and ranchers. In L.A., they call it flooding. Here, we call it groundwater level replentishing. Amazing what problems concrete and asphalt can cause when they cover the ground. We could actually use a couple more inches of that water that's washing houses down the hill in SoCal up here. If I could figure out how to get it where it does the most good, I wouldn't have time to list on Ebay. It would be a 60 hour a week job just counting my money

You Californians do get uptight when they mention T-storms & tornados. Helz, I grew up in Iowa where they were a regular occurance. We had an eighty foot cottonwood in our yard, lightening struck it & put a 4 foot piece of bark on my parents bed. I have seen hailstones bigger than hockey pucks. I have slept through tornados about 1/4 mile away. Just let my dog for his last pee & not a cloud in the sky with a big full moon above.

It's interesting listening to folks about what they do and do not worry about...
Was born and raised in Southern California, and spent most of my married life in the Bay area. Now, a tornado, a blizzard, or a hurricane would definitely upset me, but an earthquake??? Piece of cake, have lived in all the areas that had the major ones, and yes was in Watsonville, CA when the 1989 one hit.
Now ask someone from the Midwest, and they will say how can anyone live in earthquake country! Most are scared to death of one!
It is just a matter of what you get used to...now I live in Reno, NV and I have had to learn how to deal with the large amount of snow we got in January!
Cheers!
