Someone a while back was telling us here how to find our hidden files. I wrote down the instructions:

>start
>control panel
>folder options
>view
>view hidden
>show hidden
>apply
>OK

I do all this, but after I've clicked on "OK," nothing happens, nothing new shows. What do I need to do next?

Why do you want to view the hidden files? They are hidden for a purpose, and you can lose everything on your hard drive if you mess with them. That said, I don't know how to do it in windows. I always did it from DOS with the attrib command.

well, if u dont see anything new..

then that particular folder or hard drive you're looking at doesnt have any system files/hidden files. thus, nothing new will be shown.

are u looking for something on the desktop? cuz there shouldnt be any there.

if you check in the c:\windows directory or the main c:\ hard drive directory, you should see a few hidden files that u didnt see before.

in explorer, u can also do this via tools>folder options>view>hidden files>show hidden files "okay"

sparkz is right - you really do not want to mess with those files. Many may look curious, but they are system files and if you try to open or change their properties, you can really mess up your operating system. But if you want to see them, after you change your view preferences you'll want to do a search in a specific folder, and use *.* as your search term. Then you will see them.

Thanks, y'all! LOL--I don't remember now why someone here thought it was important to do this. . . . something about corruption or such. I found a note I'd written to myself a couple of months ago and was curious about it all.

It's probably time for me to just get on with my life! I appreciate your willingness to educate me.
