Dear xxxxxxxxxxx (removed)
We are asking for your help to understand online auction selling better. We are conducting a survey as a part of a research study being conducted at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center. This survey is not associated with or sponsored by any specific online auction site or other commercial enterprise. The purpose of this study is to evaluate what effect (if any) the design of an online auction listing will have on the purchase price received for that item. You will be shown two different auction listings and will be asked to examine the two different listings and then answer 14 questions related to your perceptions of the listings. None of the questions are of a personal or embarrassing nature. It should take you 10 to 15 minutes to complete the online survey.
We are required by the University to tell you of any risks or benefits that you will receive from this study. In fact, there are not risks to you other than the minimal risks associated with using a computer and remember that during transmission data may not be secure. The survey is anonymous; your name and email will not be connected to your survey responses in any way. Your name will not appear anywhere in the experimental records. Later, we may publish the findings of our study or present these findings at public research conference. But all results reported will be done in aggregate and no names will ever be used.
This research project is part of an ongoing stream of research conducted to investigate the dynamics of online auctions and your responses could potentially be used to improve the way future online auctions are designed. If you wish to receive a copy of our results please send an email to the researchers at [email protected].
Your participation is solicited, but it is strictly voluntary. If you are willing to fill-out our survey please click the link below. Your consent to participate is implied if you follow the link and fill out the survey.

I'm thinking scam, not special. At the least, a phishing expedition. I was just wondering if anyone else was familiar with this.

Didn't get it but for some reason it sounds real and not a scam - is there some place to click for passwords? I think I would pass on participating though.

Thanks, everyone. It seems to be legit, and I've decided to go ahead and take the survey.
