Safari is driving me nuts with hangups and I'm thinking it needs more memory but the method I have always used is not working. I click on the icon, go to "Get Info" and.... no Memory field to increase.
HELP!! What am I missing?

Fenix, What version of the operating system are you using? I was having a problem with Safari bookmarks taking over a minute to save. When I installed the latest update to 10.3.8 the bookmarks now are instantaneously added. I think there was a fix for Safari recently as well.

I need to upgrade to Jag but am putting it off because I'm getting a new laptop which will come with it anyway. The problem I am having with Safari should be a simple fix, I just can't figure out where to do it. I just need to enlarge the memory allocation. For some reason though, the old tried and true method is not enabled so I'm wondering if someone knows the magic path.
Photo- my problem is not with bookmark saving but rather with with general lags. If I am doing a lot of work with uploading or adding new inventory etc I have to force quit out every hour or so. It's driving me up a wall.

Yes I understood that your probelm was not with bookmarks but I think the update (Safari 1.2) fixed several things with Safari. If you are using any version of X I don't think memory is allocated the same way it was in earlier operating systems.
I was having a lot of freezes with Internet Explorer when I changed to Safari and except for the bookmarks it has gone well.
Good luck with a fix.

I had the same problem with Safari. As it was explained to me, under 10 it is not necessary to allocate memory to specific programs -- it is all done 'on the fly,' automatically, by the OS. It's a dynamic memory sharing which occurs entirely in the background. So theoretically, it is not possible under normal circumstances to run into memory limitations, with Safari or any other app. This is why the 'get info' trick does not work with OS X.
That said -- I switched to Mozilla, and I've been very happy with it. If clearing your cache and deleting your preferences folder does not help, I think Mozilla is worth a look.

good grief fenix, you mean you're running some pre Jaguar version of X?? upgrade right now to not Jaguar, but Panther...you need to be running OS 10.3.8. There is an absolute world of difference. Anything pre Jaguar you can consider as os X beta as far as I'm concerned.

short of an upgrade, you might want to look on the Apple website, Support > discussions, for threads about Safari. I'll bet there are quite a few of them.

This is actually mitzee's hubby. Jaguar, like all of OS X, is more opaque than Classic.
After trying to use Safari several times, I installed Mozilla Firefox. It won't give you problems. I've been using Firefox since it came out and it runs perfectly!!! Also displays better than Netscape or Internet Exploder.
Mozilla Thunderbird is the best of the e-mail programs, too. And, if you have to live with the Wintel environment also, both are available for both OS X and Windows XP.
