Great article. Craigslist is a wonderful service.I wish its format was more like eBay though. Of course it is very successful with the regional lists for selling or jobs, e.g.
Craig and Meg have two very different goals .. Craig privides a service without the main focus on making $$$$$, Meg sells a service with one focus MEGA $$$$$$$$ profit.
AT THIS TIME eBay has no real competition,BUT it will happen----
Just my HONEST opinion

I will always keep in mind those that simply went to work on a Tuesday morning.

I find myself using craigslist more and more. It is great to get rid of something. I purchased a new treadmill recently, and wanted to get rid of the old piece of junk that I had. I thought it would be impossible, but I placed a free ad, and within an hour 15 people were willing to come pick it up! That is great, I will definitely use it to give away stuff.

I've also used it to make some good contacts to purchase material. This is where it is less useful though, as at least for me, I have to go through a lot of junk to find a few gems. It's free, I'm not complaining, but I think because it is free, people post ads with very unreasonable prices. Overall, I think craigslist is a really good thing, but at this point I don't think I will be selling items from there.

If you want to give something away, or look at what other people in your area are giving away, go to

http://freecycle.org/

On one side, it lets you choose a region of the country and Canada. From the region, you can usually find your specific area.

One FRUSTRATING thing about CL.........Sure I can deliver the refer you say you are Happy to pay $75.00 for....Where do MOST of the buyers end up being? You got it... 70 miles ROUND trip! 7 mpg in a 14 foot truck! you KNOW the gas prices....Suddenly the e mails end......they drive a TOYOTA.....they are OUT of their minds! And,,,if Any of you know this area,,,,,Me, Anaheim,,,,,where do these buyers live,,,,,hahahaha IN the RICHES part of ORANGE County,,,,,So. Orange County,, Rich and CHEAP!!!!!!! over and and over and over again,,,,Same destination.......they want EVERYTHING CHEAP and think it can be delivered for $20.00, hahahahahahaa.............

They e mail you to death,,,,,they want an e bay description of the ITEM sent to them PERSONALLY........MOST Never show up....to LOOK at it,,, and those that do want it want me to DRIVE to them and then of course,,,,,they would say well the color is not what I was thinking,,,,,,hahahahaa,,,,,,Been there done that ONCE in my life..... NOPE you come and L@@K at it, we go from there.......

I could go on and on ,,,,,,started using CL 6 mo. ago......Yup I HAVE completed "some " deals and they WERE worth it.....$$$$$$$$ Hard,,,,, VERY HARD,,,,,,,you have to have TENACITY!!!!!!!!

JM2cents....
