.... or at least "some" of them ...

I sure did find out that ebay scans thru the emails that are sent THROUGH their system... couple days ago, while I was not home, a scam artist with an ebay ID emailed me thru 'contact member' and pretended to be the Seller of an expensive lot I bid on last week (which I did not win), and sent me the almost exact wording of '2nd Chance Offer', trying to get me to take him up on sending him a ton o money ....... but in my email box was his "offer" to me, and also an email sent just a little later, FROM ebay fraud-type of dept., that read:

Dear estatesalestuff:

Our records indicate that you recently sent an email to or received an email from "8%$eBayIDname" {changed to protect the guilty} through the eBay email system (for example, you may have sent an email to this member through Ask Seller a Question or received an email from this member through Contact eBay Member).

Sometimes eBay accounts are used to send email solicitations for transactions outside of eBay, or to send unrelated questions in hopes that you will respond so that the other party can obtain your email address. We wanted you to be aware of the potential fraud risk these solicitations pose and encourage you to be cautious about the email you received from this member.

Please keep in mind, sales that take place outside of eBay are not eligible for any eBay or PayPal protective services and you run the risk of losing your money or your item if you complete these transactions. We would encourage you to review the eBay pages related to Fraud Protection at the address provided below for information on steps you can take to ensure that your transactions are successful:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/isgw-buyer-protection-steps.html

If you have already sent the item or sent payment for the item, please reply to this email and we will send you additional information about how to protect yourself.

Regards,

Trust & Safety Department"

I knew the guy was scamming because he was not the same seller name I had corresponded with, and I sure wasn't going to answer his email, but like i said, i was
really surprised that ebay sent an email about it, just shortly after the guy had
emailed me ...

Anyway, I thought that was pretty intersting, because ebay never ever emailed us before regarding this type of 'correspondence' (received thru ebay channels) ....

p.s. I checked the ebay ID of the scammer ... he had a feedback of 2 and was Naru'ed that quick!

I'm not so sure it means they detected a scam though. A few weeks ago I emailed another seller through ebay to see if he had something I had ordered in the past in stock (they were out of stock for awhile). He emailed me back that they weren't in yet. I got the same email you got from ebay.
